About the Center for Leadership, Education, Advancement & Development (LEAD)
The Center for Leadership, Education, Advancement & Development (LEAD) is NLC’s hub for leadership development and lifelong learning for municipal officials. LEAD provides curriculum-based learning opportunities designed to equip local leaders with the skills and knowledge needed to lead effectively. The Center also advances the mission of the Institute for Youth, Education, and Families (YEF Institute), focusing on policies and programs that support children, youth, and families in cities and towns across the country.
Position Overview
The LEAD Center is seeking dynamic and motivated interns to support its leadership development programs and youth- and family-focused initiatives. This internship offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the professional growth of local leaders and to support efforts that improve outcomes for young people in communities nationwide.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the development and delivery of leadership training programs, workshops, and virtual learning sessions.
- Conduct research on best practices in leadership development, youth engagement, and family policy.
- Support the creation of educational materials, toolkits, and digital content for municipal leaders.
- Help coordinate events, webinars, and peer learning opportunities.
- Track and evaluate program participation and impact.
- Provide administrative and logistical support to the LEAD and YEF teams.
Qualifications
- Current undergraduate or graduate student, or recent graduate in public administration, education, leadership studies, social work, or a related field.
- Strong interest in leadership development, youth and family policy, or civic engagement.
- Excellent communication, research, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience with event planning, curriculum development, or community programming is a plus.
