What are the responsibilities and job description for the Law Enforcement Educator position at National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund?
The Mission of the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund is to honor the fallen, tell the story of American law enforcement and make it safer for those who serve.
The Law Enforcement Educator leads museum visitors through immersive, scenario-based training experiences that reflect real-world law enforcement decision-making, leads educational programs for groups, conducts tours, and provides back-up coverage for visitor services. This role is ideal for a retired law enforcement professional or trainerwho enjoys public engagement, education, and facilitating thoughtful discussion with diverse audiences.
Educators guide participants through a variety of topics within law enforcement. They interact with a variety of age groups with varying degrees of understanding of law enforcement all while ensuring a safe, engaging, and educational experience.
• Lead 15-to-30-minute sessions in the Museum’s two training simulators, which provide participants withan experience of being an officer: the VirTra Decision Simulator and L3Harris PatrolSim Driving Simulator.
• Lead facilitated discussions with students and general audiences that encourage active participation and thoughtful discussion.
• Lead a variety of interactive educational workshops and tours for K-12 students, scouting groups, community members, and law enforcement groups.
• Provide participants with a clear explanation of the FATS equipment and instructions for how to use the firearms during each scenario.
• Provide participants with a clear explanation of the L3Harris PatrolSim driver’s seat and instructions for how to safely operate the system.
• Maintain the safety and well-being of participants who take part in the simulation experience.
• Oversee the selection and delivery of scenarios relative to program type and target audience.
• Maintain the daily operation and routine maintenance of the equipment.
• Follow appropriate guidelines and procedures outlined by the lead instructor and work collaboratively with the team of simulator experience educators.
• Work in cooperation with the staff and team of simulator experience educators to develop sessions that meet shared program goals and objectives.
• Be available to work weekday and weekend shifts.
• Cover the front desk and sell tickets to the museum on a limited basis.
• Ten years of Law Enforcement experience is preferred.
• Firearms/Use of Force Instructor is preferred.
• Law Enforcement Driving Instructor is preferred.
• Proficient computer hardware and software knowledge and related skills.
• Experience with facilitating discussions with non-law enforcement audiences or have comparable training in the law enforcement profession.
• Experience as a law enforcement trainer in putting together lesson plans.
• Experience with FATS systems a plus, but not required.
• Experience with VirTra and L3Harris systems is a plus, but not required.
• Has never been included on the National De-certification Index is required.
• Familiarity with instruction on de-escalation tactics is preferred.
• Flexibility and adaptability when interacting with diverse audiences.
• Strong communication skills.
• Must be able to maintain firearms training simulator and driving simulator equipment for safety and daily operation.
• Position requires frequent, sustained periods of standing and/or walking.
• This is a part-time position which pays $32.50 per hour.
