Business Marketing & Operations Specialist

National Journal
Washington, DC Full Time
POSTED ON 5/3/2026
AVAILABLE BEFORE 6/17/2026
National Journal is hiring a Business Marketing & Operations Specialist to support the execution and optimization of our marketing and revenue initiatives.

This role is ideal for someone who is interested in the intersection of marketing, business operations, and revenue strategy. You’ll work across teams to help drive growth by improving how we plan, execute, and measure our go-to-market efforts.

Rather than focusing solely on campaign execution, this role will play a key part in ensuring our marketing efforts are efficient, data-driven, and aligned with broader business goals.

National Journal is a premier research and insights company committed to helping organizations effectively navigate Washington. Best known as one of Washington’s most trusted media brands for nearly 50 years, our expertise is unmatched with teams of specialists dedicated to government affairs, communications, and political research, in addition to exceptional journalism.

Our mission is to equip the thousands of government and business leaders in the nation’s capital with the intelligence, insights, and connections they need to save time, increase efficiency, and deliver success.

What is National Journal’s Marketing and Events team?

You will be part of a high-energy team of digital marketers, events professionals, and graphic designers who focus on promoting NJ’s products and services while serving and delivering value to government affairs organizations. We concept, develop, and execute marketing campaigns that engage, educate, and generate interest in National Journal’s products, working closely with our revenue partners to bring on new members and retain existing clients.

In this role, you will also contribute to improving how our marketing and revenue efforts operate—helping ensure campaigns are efficient, measurable, and aligned across the full funnel.

What You’ll Do

  • Support the execution of integrated marketing campaigns across channels
  • Partner with sales and client teams to improve lead flow, follow-up, and conversion processes
  • Track and analyze performance across campaigns and channels to identify opportunities for improvement
  • Help maintain and optimize systems that support marketing and revenue operations (e.g., CRM, marketing automation tools)
  • Build reports and dashboards to provide visibility into pipeline, campaign performance, and ROI
  • Identify process gaps across campaign execution, lead management, and attribution, and recommend improvements
  • Contribute to testing and experimentation efforts to improve engagement, conversion, and retention
  • Take ownership of key workstreams and proactively identify opportunities to improve outcomes

AI & Automation

  • Use AI tools to accelerate campaign development, testing, and optimization (e.g., copy generation, segmentation, personalization)
  • Identify opportunities to automate manual marketing and revenue workflows using AI and existing platform capabilities
  • Partner with teams to enhance lead scoring, targeting, and lifecycle marketing using tools such as HubSpot
  • Experiment with AI-driven approaches to improve conversion, engagement, and pipeline velocity
  • Help define best practices for responsible and effective AI usage across marketing and revenue teams

Who You Are

  • Interested in both marketing and how businesses grow revenue
  • Comfortable working with data and using it to inform decisions
  • Sees AI as a core lever for scaling impact and is eager to experiment with new tools and approaches
  • Naturally curious about how systems and processes work end-to-end
  • Organized and detail-oriented, with strong project management skills
  • Able to collaborate across teams and manage multiple priorities
  • Comfortable taking ownership and operating with a degree of autonomy
  • Strong writer with a keen eye for detail and effective targeting

What We’re Looking For

We welcome candidates from a range of backgrounds, including:

  • Marketing (especially performance or lifecycle marketing)
  • Business Operations or Revenue Operations
  • Consulting or other analytically focused roles

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 2–4 years of experience in digital marketing, business operations, revenue operations, consulting, or sales enablement, preferably in a B2B environment
  • Experience working across teams on growth, go-to-market, or strategy initiatives
  • Entrepreneurial spirit; track record of managing initiatives from conception to execution
  • Familiarity with marketing and sales workflows in a B2B environment

What Sets You Apart

  • Experience with CRM or marketing automation platforms (e.g., Salesforce, Marketo, HubSpot)
  • Strong analytical skills (Excel/Google Sheets; bonus for BI tools)
  • Exposure to sales, marketing, or client success workflows
  • Interest in improving processes and building scalable systems
  • Experience using or experimenting with AI tools (e.g., ChatGPT, Copilot, Gemini) to improve productivity or workflows

About You

  • Propensity for velocity and sense of urgency—you enjoy working quickly
  • Strong organizational and project management skills, with attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines
  • An analytical, data-driven mindset, with the ability to derive actionable insights from campaign and pipeline performance
  • Ability to troubleshoot workflows, attribution logic, and reporting needs
  • Natural curiosity about how marketing efforts connect to broader business and revenue outcomes
  • Creative, resourceful problem-solver
  • Prodigious work ethic and spirit of generosity
  • Interest in policy and politics is a plus
