National Grid is hiring a Lead Analyst for our Customer Energy Management NY department in Albany, Syracuse or Buffalo, NY to support the company's participation in NY state's Clean Heat program.
Under the Customer Energy Management New York (CEM NY) group for National Grid's gas and electric operating companies in NY, the Residential Category team is responsible for the portfolio and program strategy and performance for energy efficiency (EE), demand response (DR), and heat electrification programs serving residential customers.
CEM NY is part of the Customer organization at National Grid and is responsible for helping customers save energy and money. CEM NY oversees portfolios of EE programs to achieve New Efficiency: New York ("NE:NY") regulatory targets, as well as support NY state's ambitions in the State Energy Plan, Reforming the Energy Vision ("REV"), and Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act ("CLCPA"). CEM NY's EE programs also contribute to achievement of National Grid's Earnings Adjustment Mechanism ("EAM") targets and demand management for gas and electric system operations.
This Lead Product Owner role will primarily focus on developing strategies to continuously improve National Grid's participation in NY's statewide Clean Heat program to drive customer adoption of heat electrification while advancing the company's strategy to deliver a clean, fair, and affordable energy future for our customers. While this position is part of CEM NY's Residential Category team, this Lead Product Owner role will support both Residential and Commercial and Industrial (C&I) components of the Clean Heat program. The ideal candidate will have experience with utility EE programs and heat pump technologies.
Key Accountabilities (including, but not limited to):
- Program and product management: Responsible for the Clean Heat program lifecycle to achieve energy savings targets, manage customer energy demand, and meet the company's climate change and equity objectives to advance National Grid's position as a leader in these fields. Contributes to EE portfolios by developing and realizing Clean Heat program strategies with annual budgets and energy savings targets in alignment with broader company strategies and NY regulatory requirements. Continuously enhances and optimizes National Grid's Clean Heat program to lower costs and meet/exceed energy savings targets, leverage new technologies, and respond to feedback from National Grid stakeholders, external stakeholders, customers, contractors, Clean Heat Joint Utility Management Committee members and NY Department of Public Service (DPS) Staff.
- Regulatory support: Lead development and implementation of regulatory policy and strategy for Clean Heat in consultation with CEM NY, Legal, Regulatory Affairs and Corporate Affairs, and other National Grid teams to develop regulatory filings to support company proposals and comply with NY Public Service Commission requirements.
- Track, analyze, and report program data to drive results: Work with NY EE Program Managers and other partner teams to track, analyze, and report data on program performance (e.g., savings, spend, etc.) to inform program enhancements and optimizations, meet regulatory requirements and compliance obligations, and track EAM achievement, such as energy savings, carbon reduction, and peak reduction, as well as contribute to the growth of the programs/products.
- Stakeholder collaboration and management: Lead communication and collaboration with internal business partners and stakeholders to provide input on program plans and develop processes for delivery of approved plans, support compliance and EAM/KPI reporting, evaluation, and policy objectives. Identify market research needs and incorporate evaluation findings to meet regulatory obligations and to support development and enhancement of products and services. Coordinate and collaborate with key external stakeholders (NY State Public Service Commission, DPS Staff, NYSERDA, NYPA, NY Joint Utilities, other NY EE program administrators) to increase business opportunities with new and existing customers.
- Takes personal responsibility for correcting problems promptly and communicates customer expectations to monitor delivery and satisfaction.
- After analyzing data, can see multiple relationships, identifying several likely causes or consequences of EE program results.
- Sees patterns or trends in EE, demand management, and climate change data, noticing when something is similar to the past and applying previous learnings to the current situation.
- Establishes the facts by digging deeper, asking probing questions and challenging initial responses from different sources within the customer EE area.
- Promotes team effectiveness by soliciting input from team members, communicating expectations of the team and delegating responsibilities while providing support and structure.
- Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills and interpersonal skills
- Strong problem-solving capabilities
- Bachelor's degree in a business, social science, or engineering field. Other education or professional training may be acceptable if other knowledge and experience requirements are met.
- 5 years of EE, heat pump, and/or relevant qualitative and quantitative analytical work in the energy/utility industry
- Knowledge of the electric and gas industry, heat pump technologies for residential and C&I end uses such as space heating/cooling and water heating, energy management systems, DR, and utility EE program design, planning, budgeting, and implementation, as well as evaluation, measurement, and verification (EM&V)
- Regulatory experience, including managing regulatory processes or contributing to regulatory filings at the local, state, or national level
- Knowledge of general utility business operations, financial accounting, policies, and practices.
- Knowledge of relevant utility legislation and regulation in the United States. Knowledge of NY utility legislation and regulation preferred.
- Proficient in relevant computer systems and software (e.g., Microsoft Office products such as Excel, Word and PowerPoint).
- Strong organization, collaboration, project management, and communications skills.

Downstate NY: $124,000 - $146,000 a year
Upstate NY: $104,000 - $122,000 a year
Salary commensurate with location and experience
