The National Constitution Center is a nonpartisan nonprofit organization devoted to teaching about the Constitution. Located on Philadelphia’s historic Independence Mall, steps from where the Constitution was drafted and signed, it serves as America’s leading platform for constitutional education and debate, fulfilling its congressional charter “to disseminate information about the U.S. Constitution on a nonpartisan basis in order to increase awareness and understanding of the Constitution among the American people.”
Position Summary
The Intern – Finance and Accounting supports the museum’s finance team with day-to-day accounting and administrative tasks while gaining hands-on experience in a nonprofit cultural institution. Responsibilities may include assisting with accounts payable and receivable, processing invoices, reconciling transactions, supporting budgeting and financial reporting, and helping maintain accurate financial records. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, organized, and pursuing a degree in finance, accounting, or a related field, with an interest in museums or the nonprofit sector. This is a flexible position working 3 or 4 days in the office.
Responsibilities and Duties
• Accounts Payable including data entry and processing payments
• Preparing check deposits
• Creating Purchase Orders
• Assist with month end reconciliation processes
• Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
• College student studying accounting, finance or a related field
• Coursework in accounting principles, finance, or nonprofit management preferred
• Proficiency in Excel and knowledge of other Microsoft Office Suite products including Word and PowerPoint
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy with numbers
• Ability to handle confidential financial information with discretion
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Willingness to learn and take initiative
Physical Demands
• Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working at a computer
• Standing and walking will be required
• Some light lifting, twenty (20) pounds or less, may be required on an infrequent basis
