FUNCTIONAL ROLE:
The Estimator position is responsible for preparing and submitting accurate, timely and professional proposals in response to customer’s Request for Quote (RFQ). The Specialist will gather the needed information, including specifications, engineering prints, quantities, lead time, special considerations and sample parts if appropriate. The Estimator, using their knowledge of the specifications and company processes, will complete a step-by-step time estimate for processing the subject parts. Estimated time will include: unpackaging, (may require calculation of part surface area), inspection, and documentation for shipment. These time estimates are used to price the work according to Fully Burdened Labor Rate (FBLR) with minimum profit margin included. The time estimates are documented on Estimating Work Sheets and result in a Piece Price for submittal. Occasionally, the RFQ volume will dictate that minimum pricing be included and will follow the Minimum Charges. The prepared Estimating Work Sheet, RFQ documents and final quotation will be presented to the President for final approval. All quotations are logged in the Bid Log Summary file, starting with the RFQ Received Date, and keeps a running record of status until such time the quote is either won, lost or dead. The Specialist is expected to submit a sufficient number of quotations to support the budgeted revenue requirement of the business plan. Knowledge of the ISO – 90001 – 2015 Quality Manual and NADCAP quality is a vital component of this functional role.
REQUIREMENTS:
· Education:
· High School Diploma or equivalent required. Bachelor Degree in Industrial Engineering, Chemistry or a similar technical field a plus.
· Experience:
· Experience in a metal coatings operation or similar large-scale metal processing and manufacturing operation a plus. Recent graduates from technical programs acceptable
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Open, read and act on all RFQ emails on a daily basis.
2. Respond to all RFQ’s within the time requested for response, or within two business days minimum.
3. Complete time estimates for parts processing using the Estimating Work Sheet. Time estimates to include time needed to process each part through required processes.
4. Calculate part surface area if needed to determine dwell time for plating and process times.
5. Calculate a piece cost, and piece minimum sales price for approval.
6. Prepare the final quotation paperwork for signature.
7. Log all quotes into the Bid Log Summary spreadsheet and maintain the log until such time as the quote is either won, lost or dead.
8. Contact the customer within two days of RFQ submittal to verify receipt.
9. Maintain Bid Log for all follow-up calls until each quote is closed.
10. Support customer orders by providing clarification when necessary and assist in alternatives when problems occur.
