Role Description
Under the general supervision of the VP of Accounting and Finance, the Staff Accountant manages the general financial functions of the Chamber, the Chamber's foundation, consolidated affiliates of the Chamber as well as non-consolidated affiliates. The Staff Accountant is responsible for supporting accounts receivable and accounts payable, including depositing and recording incoming payments, processing outgoing accounts payable payments, and various general ledger entries. The Staff Accountant also reviews general accounting data for accuracy and completeness.
Essential Functions | Financial Management & Compliance
· Process payments for accounts payable on a weekly basis and maintaining accurate vendor tax IDs to ensure all vendors are correctly paid in a timely manner
· Maintain vendor records in accounting system(s)
· Assist member relations staff with invoicing and recording one-off and special project transactions; assist with recurring billing and credit card issues
· Prepare physical checks and perform electronic deposits into respective bank accounts
· Assist other staff with accounting questions and provide accurate financial information in response to inquiries from coworkers and members
· Maintain confidentiality of payroll information and financial records
· Assist with preparation of audit information for the NACC and the NCPBF
· Prepare and/or assist with preparation of supporting documentation for various tax filings, including the Form 990 for the NACC & NCPBF and the annual Metro Nashville Personal Property Tax Return
· Occasionally make in-person deposits at banks for physical checks received.
· Record deposits, process accounts payable, and enter journal vouchers into accounting system.
· Create invoices as requested.
· Prepare monthly financial statements for non-affiliated entities
· Maintain vendor records in accounting system(s) including processing of 1099's at year end for non-affiliated entities
· Assist in preparing annual budgets.
· Assist out-sourced accounting consultants (Chazin) with the management of the Fixed Assets
· Communicate purchases and disposals as they occur.
· Complete a semi-annual physical inventory of all fixed assets.
Qualifications
· Bachelor’s degree required – concentration with required courses in Accounting strongly preferred
· Requires a minimum of two to three years' experience in general ledger accounting
or auditing
· Experience with and ability to prepare monthly closing statements and year end closing statements
· Excellent understanding of accounting principles (GAAP)
· Experience in Sage Intacct preferred
· Expertise in PC software and Excel spreadsheet applications
· Non-profit experience is preferred
