Substitute Teacher: All Levels

Position Summary
The Nashua-Plainfield Community School District is seeking dependable and student-centered Substitute Teachers to provide classroom instruction and supervision when regular teachers are absent. The substitute teacher will follow lesson plans, maintain a positive learning environment, and support student learning and safety.

Qualifications

• Iowa teaching license, substitute authorization, or other appropriate authorization required.

• Previous classroom or educational experience preferred.

• Strong communication, classroom management, and organizational skills.

• Ability to work effectively with students of varying ages and abilities.

• Ability to follow lesson plans and school procedures.

• Ability to maintain confidentiality and demonstrate professional and ethical behavior.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Follow lesson plans and instructional materials provided by the regular classroom teacher.

• Provide instruction and support student learning in accordance with established curriculum and classroom expectations.

• Maintain a safe, orderly, and positive classroom environment.

• Supervise students and enforce school and classroom rules consistently and fairly.

• Take attendance and maintain appropriate classroom records as needed.

• Provide assistance to individual students or small groups when appropriate.

• Communicate relevant classroom concerns or information to the regular teacher and building administration.

• Maintain confidentiality of student and school information.

• Follow district policies, procedures, and safety requirements.

• Complete classroom duties and other responsibilities assigned by the building principal or designated staff.

• Perform other duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, and move throughout the school day.

• Ability to supervise students in classrooms, hallways, playgrounds, and other school settings.

• Ability to respond appropriately to student safety needs.

Working Conditions
Work is performed primarily in classrooms and other school facilities. Substitute teachers may be assigned to elementary, junior high, or high school classrooms and may be required to supervise students during arrival, dismissal, lunch, recess, passing periods, or other activities.

Terms of Employment
Substitute assignments, work schedules, and compensation are established by the Nashua-Plainfield Community School District Board of Education and applicable district policies. Employment is contingent upon successful completion of required background checks and district requirements.
