Substitute Paraprofessional

Position Summary
The Nashua-Plainfield Community School District is seeking dependable and student-focused Substitute Paraprofessionals to provide support to students and staff when regular paraprofessional staff are absent. The substitute will assist with academic, behavioral, social, and daily living needs while maintaining a safe, supportive, and positive learning environment.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.

• Previous experience working with children or students preferred.

• Ability to work effectively with students individually and in small groups.

• Strong communication, patience, dependability, and organizational skills.

• Ability to maintain confidentiality and demonstrate professional and ethical behavior.

• Ability to follow teacher direction, student plans, and district procedures.

• Ability to safely perform physical duties, including lifting or transferring students when required.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Follow teaching strategies and directions provided by the classroom or special education teacher.

• Work with individual students and small groups to reinforce academic, behavioral, and social skills.

• Assist students in implementing goals and strategies outlined in their Individualized Education Plans (IEPs).

• Build positive, supportive relationships with assigned students while maintaining appropriate professional boundaries.

• Assist with classroom materials, teaching aids, and other instructional activities.

• Assist teachers with assessments, testing, scoring, and recording information as directed.

• Supervise students to ensure safety and compliance with school rules, including during transitions, hallways, bathrooms, and other common areas.

• Assist students with physical or daily living needs as outlined in their IEPs.

• Perform simple errands, clerical duties, and other student-related tasks as assigned.

• Maintain confidentiality of student information and demonstrate professional and ethical conduct.

• Participate in required training or in-service activities.

• Communicate and work cooperatively with teachers, special education staff, administrators, and other school personnel.

• Perform other duties as assigned by the building principal or designated staff.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, and move throughout the school day.

• Ability to assist with lifting, transferring, or positioning students with physical disabilities when required.

• Ability to perform physical duties necessary to ensure student safety.

Working Conditions
Work is performed primarily in classrooms, special education settings, hallways, and other school facilities. Duties may require frequent interaction with students with varying academic, behavioral, social, and physical needs.

Terms of Employment
Substitute assignments, work schedules, and compensation are established by the Nashua-Plainfield Community School District Board of Education and applicable district policies. Employment is contingent upon successful completion of required background checks and district requirements.
