Position:  Middle School Health Teacher

 

 

The Middle School Health Teacher will provide health instruction across the district’s three middle schools. This position requires the educator to rotate among the schools on a trimester basis to deliver health curriculum and support consistent programming for all students. The teacher  is responsible for delivering engaging and effective instruction aligned with the established curriculum for students. The teacher will collaborate with colleagues and administrators to support student learning and contribute to a positive school environment. Responsibilities also include participating in professional development opportunities and attending meetings as needed to support students, academic programs, and overall school initiatives.

Reporting directly to the building principal and working under the terms of the collective bargaining agreement with the Nashoba Regional Education Association – Unit A, the Teacher advances the NRSD mission of inspiring and challenging all learners to realize their unique potential and to become active contributors to their community.

Through a lens of equity, and as appropriate for the grade level of students, teachers integrate social emotional learning into the curriculum and engage in culturally responsive teaching.  


Position Responsibilities:

  1. Meets and instructs assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated;
  2. Plans a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests and abilities of the students;
  3. Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students;
  4. Prepares for classes assigned; 
  5. Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior needed to achieve a supportive learning environment in the classroom;
  6. Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and, in harmony with the goals, establishes clear objectives for all lessons, units and projects to communicate these objectives to students;
  7. Employs a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media.  Develops lesson plans and instructional materials and provides individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each pupil;
  8. Assesses the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provides progress reports as required;  Identifies pupil needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping pupils resolve health, attitude, and learning issues;
  9. Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities;  
  10. Creates an effective age-appropriate environment for learning through functional and engaging displays, bulletin boards, and interest centers;
  11. Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulation;  Evaluates pupils’ academic and social growth, keeps appropriate records, and prepares progress reports;
  12. Assists the administration in implementing all policies and rules governing student life and conduct;  In the classroom, develops reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure, and maintains order in a fair and just manner;
  13. Makes provision for being available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested to do so;
  14. Communicates with parents through conferences and other means to discuss pupil’s progress and interpret the school program;
  15. Plans and supervises purposeful assignments for instructional assistants, if applicable, and, cooperatively with department heads, provides input relative to their effectiveness; and
  16. Continues with personal professional development.  Maintains professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the district and self-selected professional growth activities.
  17. The omission of specific duties here does not exclude them from the position’s responsibilities if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment to the position.

 

 

Job Qualifications

  1. Bachelors Degree in Education, Health or related field required, Massachusetts DESE licensure appropriate to the role and level.
  2. Excellent communication skills and ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.   
  3. Demonstrated interpersonal skills and the ability to relate well with students,  staff, administration, parents and the community.  
  4. Must be able to assist in the protection of students and school property, and assist in fire and other emergencies or emergency drills as required by law and School Committee policy. 
  5. The ability to work onsite in district schools and buildings is an essential function of this job.

Physical Demands:

The physical requirements of this role vary based on assignment and the age of students served. In general, the position involves the ability to move throughout the classroom and school environment, including standing and walking for extended periods on hard surfaces. The role may also require occasionally lifting or moving items up to 25 pounds, as well as bending, reaching, and repositioning as needed.

 

Work is primarily performed in a classroom setting and typically involves light physical activity. The environment may include regular interaction with students and staff, varying room temperatures, background noise, and frequent transitions or interruptions common in school settings. The position also requires the ability to use a computer and standard office equipment to support instruction and communication.

 

Terms of Employment, Evaluation of Performance, and Salary:

 

The Teacher is a Nashoba Regional School District Unit A position.  Terms of employment, including evaluation and salary, are covered by the provisions of the Unit A collective bargaining agreement currently in effect. Salary in accordance with the Unit A Salary Scale. The minimum and maximum salary is based on the Bachelors level scale. Candidate review begins immediately. 

Salary : $60,027 - $103,008
