This position serves as the Program Coordinator in the Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STD) program. The STD program includes immunization against sexually transmitted preventable infections such as HPV, Mpox, and Hepatitis B, screening for sexually transmitted infections, assessing for risk of STDs, physical assessment of patients who are asymptomatic or symptomatic for STDs, notification of STD lab results, and arrangement and provision of STD treatments.
 
 Work is performed under the general supervision of the Public Health Nursing Supervisor I, with leeway to exercise independent judgment within the framework of applicable rules, regulations, policies, and procedures in the performance of duties, both in terms of planning and accomplishing work and in making decisions on public health needs and requests. A person employed in this position must be currently certified as an STD Enhanced Role RN (ERRN) or become enrolled in the program to obtain certification within one year of employment. Services will be provided according to standing orders signed by the Nash County Health Department’s Medical Director in compliance with the NC Board of Nursing’s Standing Order Position Statement. Clinical oversight for duties performed as an ERRN will be provided by the Public Health Nursing Supervisor I.

The following are examples of typical work activities and responsibilities. The incumbent may be responsible for performing other related duties and responsibilities as required or assigned.
 
 Performs assessment, counseling, education, and documentation for patient health issues, needs and concerns in adult health, maternal health, child health, family planning, sexually transmitted disease prevention, and primary care programs.
 
 Provides direct patient care and collects and reports basic patient data.
 
 Assesses need for laboratory tests; requests appropriate laboratory tests per protocols and/or clinician orders.
 
 STD Program Coordinator duties include but are not limited to attending TATP Communicable Disease Office Hours for programmatic updates and service information, maintaining current written protocols and policies for STD clinical services delivery, conducting customer satisfaction surveys, assist with maintaining current standing orders, provide end-of-year program report data for current fiscal year by identified deadline, provide mid-year program report data for current fiscal year by identified deadline, and assisting with STD Program monitoring visits. STD Coordinator will be responsible for checking and updating the North Carolina Electronic Disease Surveillance System (NCEDSS) daily. Stays up to date on updated Health Department protocols/manuals.
 
 Maintains client confidentiality per HIPAA regulations or Health Department protocols.
 
 Refers to Health Department clinic protocol manuals, professional Internet sites, website for North Carolina Immunization Registry, client charts, clinician notes/orders, professional education materials, policy and procedure manuals, computer manuals, codes / laws / regulations, publications, and reference texts, etc. as needed.
 
 Adheres to the department's safety rules and regulations.
 
 Work Schedule: 8 am - 5 pm, Monday through Friday. Extended hours or occasional weekend activities may be requested or required for special events, such as programmatic needs, health fairs, special clinics, shelters, or follow-up of possible communicable disease outbreaks. Hours may vary depending on services offered by the health department.
 

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Master’s Degree in Public Health AND graduation from a school of professional nursing AND two (2) years of professional nursing experience; OR Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing which includes a Public Health Nursing rotation AND two (2) years of Public Health Nursing experience; OR Graduation from a School of Professional Nursing AND three (3) years of professional nursing experience including two (2) years of Public Health Nursing experience; OR An equivalent combination of training and experience as defined above. A higher degree does not substitute for work experience.
 
 Possession of or ability to readily obtain a driver’s license valid in the State of North Carolina.
 
 Possession of a valid, current unrestricted license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of North Carolina.
 
 All Public Health nurses are required to complete the Credentialed Public Health Nurse Course within one year of their hire date.
