What are the responsibilities and job description for the Kennel Attendant Coordinator position at Nash County?
The Kennel Attendant Coordinator is responsible for coordinating and overseeing the work of the kennel attendants to ensure the overall care and well-being of all animals within the shelter. Responsibilities include scheduling and training staff, monitoring supply levels, and ensuring all animal care, feeding, and cleaning procedures are performed properly and consistently. Duties will vary based on the needs of the shelter.
- Adhere to and ensure staff compliance with the cleaning procedures established for animal care, kennel maintenance, sanitation, parasite and disease control, and other animal care practices.
- Supervise daily operations of animal housing areas to ensure they are maintained in a clean, sanitary, and safe condition.
- Ensure fresh water is available and easily accessible to each animal at all times, and oversee feeding routines for all animals in care.
- Maintain a humane and caring attitude at all times towards the animals, and ensure staff are properly trained regarding interaction with the animals.
- Support efforts to monitor animal well-being through staff observation and ensure prompt reporting of any signs of stress, injury, or illness to the Shelter Manager.
- Prepare and manage work schedules to provide adequate staffing coverage, including weekends and holidays.
- Train new part-time staff in shelter procedures and animal care standards.
- Monitor cleaning, feeding, and supply usage to ensure adequate inventory of food, bedding, cleaning products, and other kennel supplies; prepare requests for restocking as needed.
- Work cooperatively with volunteers and provide staff oversight to ensure a positive, productive environment for both animals and people.
- Represent the Pet Connection Center in a professional manner at all times.
- Coordinate and assist with the proper receiving and kenneling of new animals, including intake procedures, vaccinations, parasite treatment, photos, kennel assignments, paperwork, and identification cards.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support the operations and mission of the shelter.

- Prior animal care and supervisory experience preferred.
Other Work Characteristics
Work in this class may include sitting, walking, running, bending, stooping, and lifting weights in excess of 100 lbs. with assistance. Work includes exposure to domesticated animals in close quarters (some of which may be sick and/or feral) and exposure to hazardous chemicals or potentially hazardous or volatile situations.
- High School Diploma or Equivalent required.
- Two (2) years of experience in animal care or shelter operations, with supervisory or lead worker experience preferred.
- Valid Driver’s License.
- Availability to work daytime, evening, weekend, and holiday shifts.
