This position is assigned to the Recreation Division; Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR) Department; Commander, Navy Installations Command (CNIC). This position is located at the Sigsbee Marina, Naval Air Station Key West. The purpose of this position is to diagnose onboard and outboard diesel and gasoline motor malfunctions, determine repair work required, and repair inboard and outboard motors.

Qualifications:

One year of specialized experience directly related to the duties described above. Qualifying experience must have been equivalent to the next lower level in the normal line of progression.

Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:

  • Have thorough knowledge of inboard and outboard motors to determine the source of trouble.
  • Must have thorough knowledge of the parts of motors, including the electrical systems.
  • Must be able to use specialized testing equipment, such as analyzers, test benches, etc.
  • Must be able to use reference material such as job orders, work sheets, technical manuals, and manufacturers manuals.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.

KEY REQUIREMENTS/CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

Responsibilities:

  • Diagnose malfunctions of inboard and outboard motors to determine the course of trouble and to determine the extent of repairs required, including electrical systems, geared units, and components. According to manufactures' manuals, tears down, adjusts, repairs, reassembles, and runs operational checks on equipment. Times and adjusts engines to operating tolerances, using specialized testing equipment, such as compression testers, analyzers, test benches, and specialized measuring instruments.
  • Instructs patrons in all phases of safety regulations concerning use of boats and motors. May collect fees for rental of equipment and prepare daily cash reports and deposit funds.
  • Determines supplies and parts needed for repair of motors. May maintain maintenance records on all equipment repaired, annotating manhours, materials, and date of repair. Based on these records, determines bench stock required.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
