What are the responsibilities and job description for the Unit Director position at Narragansett Indian Tribe?
The Narragansett Indian Tribe is seeking a Unit Director for its Boys & Girls club and wil be directly responsible for the overseeing of operations and programs of the designated site, with a primary focus on programs and service delivery; facilities and budget management; staff development; supervision and training of assigned staff and program volunteers; assisting with community relations; membership growth and administration; managing and coordinating club related events and facilities. The Unit Director will work very closely with the CEO and NIT BGC Team to ensure objectives are carried out in a timely and efficient manner.
Key Responsibilities:
· Manage all aspects of the Boys & Girls Club Unit to ensure an environment, programs and services prepare youth for success.
· Establish Unit programs, activities and services that prepare youth for success and that create a club environment that facilitates achievement of Youth Development Outcomes.
· Ensure a healthy and safe environment, ensuring facilities, equipment and supplies are maintained.
· Ensure administrative and operational systems are in place to maintain the operation of the physical properties and equipment of the Club. Ensure compliance with organization policies.
· Recruit, manage and provide career development opportunities for branch staff and volunteers. Conduct regular staff meeting.
· Develop partnerships with parents, community leaders and organizations.
· Develop and maintain public relations to increase the visibility of programs, services and activities with the Club and the community.
· Supervises assigned staff to ensure policies and procedures are followed.
· Work closely with CEO and NIT BGC Team in executing strategies and monitoring progress towards established goals for resource development and fundraising.
· Assist CEO with financial resources and development of annual budgets, including writing grant proposal and tracking grants.
· Ensure programming reflects the Native American culture in program planning, development, and implementation whenever possible.
· Performs other duties and responsibilities as required or assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
· Knowledge of and ability to follow and apply the policies and procedures of the Narragansett Indian Tribe and the Boys & Girls Clubs of America.
· Knowledge of principles and processes for providing youth services to ensure quality programming, also to ensure high standards of service to youth and families participating in the program.
· Skill in personal computer and related software such as Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook), and internet.
· Ability to effectively communicate, orally and in writing with co-workers, staff, and administration.
· Ability to instruct and work with youth in the following areas: education & technology, arts & crafts, sports & recreation, character & leadership development, and health & life skill development.
· Ability to ensure the safety and wellbeing of youth participating in the program.
· Ability to motivate youth and manage behavioral problems.
Qualifications:
· Bachelor's degree from an accredited college required, elementary or secondary education preferred.
· A minimum of 3 years’ work experience in a Boys & Girls Club or similar organization at a professional level where knowledge, experience and competency in the above key roles were acquired.
· Demonstrated ability to plan, organize, and direct Club operations. Ability to recruit, supervise, train, and retain key employees. Ability to manage and maintain a facility and develop community support of club operations and programs.
· Ability to handle crisis and to resolve conflicts, disputes, or concerns in the Club among leaders, Club members, volunteers, or parents.
· Knowledge of the mission, objectives, programs of non-profit organizations and youth development services, preferably Boys & Girls Clubs.
· Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to motivate leaders. Strong oral, written and presentation communication skills. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with Club leaders, volunteers, and community groups. Must have a working knowledge of computers and be adapt at utilizing technology as a tool for completing work.
· Must have a valid driver’s license.
· Successfully pass criminal background check with no felony convictions within seven years.
· CPR certification or ability to obtain within (30) days of hire.
