Role and Responsibilities


1. Maintain required records management of patient files.

2. Support and strengthen the behavioral, emotional, or intellectual skills necessary to live, learn or work in patient’s environment.

3. Work with necessary reporting and recording formats; including AKAIMS and Electronic Medical Record/Electronic Health Record (EMR/EHR).

4. Provide a minimum of one hour per month and/or 4 units of counseling to each patient.

5. Maintain a caseload with a minimum of 35 patients:1 directing clinician.

6. Provide orientation to new patients at the clinic and its rules.

7. Interpret program rules and policies to assigned patients.

8. Complete substance abuse assessments.

9. Develop treatment plan with patient for recovery from substance dependence.

10. Interview and individually counsel program patients.

11. Provide group therapy to patients.

12. Refer patients to other community-based services for additional care.

13. Accept supervision feedback and training plan to assist with success as a directing clinician.

14. Audit charts for review by the Clinical Supervisor, Medical Director, or program medical provider.

15. Follow federal and state regulation concerning methadone treatment.

16. Knowledge of the methadone treatment program philosophy and operation.

17. Knowledge of the current principles of group and individual counseling and interviewing.

18. Knowledge of local social service agencies.

19. Maintain continuing education units to remain competent in the field.

20. Maintain certification requirements for the Medicaid 1115 Waiver program.

21. Follow the mandated medical orders communicated by the Medical Director or program medical provider.

22. Report patient progress as requested by the Medical Director or program medical provider.

23. Direct patients to the medical staff as needed for medical needs.

24. Maintain company equipment to include cell phones, laptops, scanners, printers, signing pads, etc.

25. Release personal information for a State of Alaska criminal background check.

  • Potential employee must be cleared and eligible for hire as determined by the State of Alaska, Division of Behavioral Health.
  • Eligibility status must be maintained throughput employment.

26. The expectations of quality and quantity of work will be re-evaluated at each annual review.

27. Other duties as assigned.


Qualifications and Education Requirements

1. Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Social Work or Sociology; or equivalent experience.

2. Licensed, Master’s level clinician preferred; or working toward licensure.

3. One full year of full-time employment as a counselor in a Social Service, Mental Health or Substance Abuse Program.


Job Responsibilities Related to Patient Privacy

  • The employee is expected to protect the privacy of all patient information in accordance with CDP’s privacy policies, procedures, and practices, as required by federal and state law, and in accordance with general principles of professionalism as a health care provider. Failure to comply with CDP’s policies and procedures on patient privacy may result in disciplinary action up to and including termination of employment or association with CDP.
  • The employee may access protected health information and other patient

information only to the extent that is necessary to complete your job duties. The

employee may only share such information with those who have a need to know

specific patient information you have in your possession to complete their job

responsibilities related to treatment, payment, or other CDP operation.

3. The employee is encouraged and expected to report, without the threat of retaliation, any concerns regarding CDP’s policies and procedures on patient privacy and observed practices in violation of the policy to the designated HIPAA Compliance Officer.

4. The employee is expected to participate in CDP’s HIPAA training and is required

to communicate privacy policy information to coworkers, patients, and others in

accordance with CDP policy.
