Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Referral Specialist to join our healthcare team. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of managed care processes, medical office procedures, and healthcare regulations. As a Referral Specialist, you will play a critical role in coordinating patient referrals, verifying insurance coverage, and ensuring seamless communication between providers and patients. Your expertise will help optimize patient care delivery while maintaining compliance with HIPAA standards and medical coding protocols.
Duties
- Facilitate patient referrals by coordinating with healthcare providers, specialists, and insurance companies to ensure timely and accurate processing.
- Verify insurance coverage and benefits using managed care protocols to confirm patient eligibility and authorization requirements.
- Maintain comprehensive medical records related to referrals, ensuring accuracy and confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA regulations.
- Utilize medical terminology, CPT (Current Procedural Terminology) codes, ICD (International Classification of Diseases) codes including ICD-9 and ICD-10, to accurately document procedures and diagnoses.
- Assist in insurance verification processes by reviewing policies, obtaining authorizations, and resolving coverage issues efficiently.
- Collaborate with medical office staff to streamline referral workflows and improve overall office efficiency.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant healthcare regulations, including HIPAA privacy standards, during all aspects of referral management.
- Provide excellent customer service by addressing patient inquiries related to referrals and insurance matters promptly and professionally.
Experience
- Prior medical office experience is highly desirable, especially within general medical practices.
- Spanish speaking applicants highly preferred.
Pay: $22.00 - $25.00 per hour
Expected hours: 40.0 per week
