Position Title: STEM Principal

Department: Administration

Reports To: Executive Director of Elementary Education

Location: Elementary


SUMMARY:
As the instructional leader establish a clear and strong focus on the quality work of students by articulating a shared vision for student learning, clearly defining grade-level or discipline-based and school-wide goals for student learning, and continuously monitoring student achievement. Takes into account the instructional practices and organizational conditions of the school required to support student achievement.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Leads the integration of STEM initiatives school-wide, including curriculum development, interdisciplinary projects, and technology integration.
  • Builds and sustains partnerships with local industry, higher education institutions, and community STEM organizations to expand learning opportunities and resources.
  • Encourages the use of data analytics, adaptive technologies, and digital tools to personalize learning and improve instructional outcomes.
  • Recognizes and celebrates accomplishments and acknowledges failures.
  • Is willing to and actively challenges the status quo.
  • Recognizes and rewards individual accomplishments.
  • Establishes strong lines of communication with and among teachers and students.
  • Fosters shared beliefs and a sense of community and cooperation.
  • Protects teachers from issues and influences that detract from their teaching time or focus.
  • Adapts his or her leadership behavior to the needs of the current situation and is comfortable with dissent.
  • Establishes clear goals and keeps those goals in the forefront of the school’s attention.
  • Communicates and operates from strong ideals and beliefs about schooling.
  • Involves teachers in the design and implementation of important decisions and policies.
  • Ensures faculty and staff are aware of the most current theories and practices and makes the discussion of these a regular aspect of the school’s culture.
  • Is directly involved in the design and implementation of curriculum, instruction, and assessment practices.
  • Is knowledgeable about current curriculum, instruction, and assessment practices.
  • Monitors the effectiveness of school practices and their impact on student learning.
  • Inspires and leads new and challenging innovations.
  • Establishes a set of standard operating procedures and routines.
  • Is an advocate and spokesperson for the school to all stakeholders.
  • Demonstrates an awareness of the personal aspects of teachers and staff.
  • Provides teachers with materials and professional development necessary for the successful execution of their jobs.
  • Is aware of the details and undercurrents in the running of the school and uses this information to address current and potential problems.
  • Has quality contact and interactions with teachers and students.
  • Keep informed of, and comply with, all school, district, state, and federal rules and policies.
  • Articulate the district’s mission, instructional philosophy, and curriculum implementation strategies to colleagues, parents, partners, and community stakeholders.
  • Represent the district in work with other related agencies, organizations, and partnerships.
  • Performs additional responsibilities set forth by supervising administration.


SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Participates in the supervision and evaluation process of staff.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Experience fostering innovation in curriculum and instruction, particularly in STEM or STEAM fields.
  • Experience in implementing or supporting makerspaces, digital learning platforms, or hands-on STEM labs in K-12 settings
  • Experience with STEM career pathways and the ability to integrate career awareness into the academic experience
  • Established connections with STEM programs, higher education institutions, or related organizations
  • Demonstrates the ability to build partnerships with other schools, community organizations, and local businesses
  • Demonstrates a track record of developing and sustaining a long-term visions, and the ability to collaboratively lead the implementation of a strategic plan


EDUCATION AND OR EXPERIENCE:

  • Valid Idaho administrative license or ability to attain certificate prior to employment start date
  • Master’s Degree in Education or Administration required
  • Three to five years of successful classroom experience required
  • Experience in a STEM related field, STEM-integrated instructional leadership, or STEM-focused education initiatives preferred


COMMUNICATION SKILLS:
Ability to read, analyze and interpret education periodicals, assessment reports, professional journals, technical procedures, and governmental regulations. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of administrators, managers, employees, clients, customers, and/or the general public.


PROBLEM SOLVING SKILLS:
Consistently demonstrate sound judgment by taking appropriate actions regarding questionable findings or concerns.


PRODUCTIVITY/EFFICIENCY SKILLS:
Consistently demonstrate ability to respond to changing situations in a flexible manner in order to meet current needs, such as reprioritizing work as necessary; organize job functions and work area to be able to effectively complete varied assignments within established time frame.


MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as statistical inference. Ability to conduct basic math functions, as well as manipulate formulas in spreadsheets.


REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral and diagram form. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with severe abstract and concrete variables.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is continuously required to sit; occasionally walk and stand and reach with hands and arms; occasionally lift and carry up to 20 pounds. May be required to block or redirect students during negative behavior. Be able to effectively supervise and support staff when consequences are implemented, including supervising physical restraint and seclusion if necessary for safety.

Specific vision abilities required by this job includes close vision; very good depth perception; and the ability to communicate through speech.

: 200 day calendar assignment
