Position Overview
The Process Engineer-Manufacturing supports chemical production operations, applying
engineering experience to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality manufacturing. This role
requires strong critical thinking, the ability to identify process deviations, and a proactive
approach to developing solutions. The engineer applies fundamental principles, such as
material and energy balances, to support their findings. Reporting to the Director of
Manufacturing, the Process Engineer is expected to make sound, independent
recommendations based on data and analysis.
The Process Engineer works closely with a team of engineers, operators, and facilities
personnel to manufacture chemicals supporting the Nalas pipeline. This role involves
hands-on interaction with process equipment as well as process control through a SCADA
system. The Process Engineer will support equipment setup, troubleshooting, maintenance,
and reconfiguration efforts of production equipment.
Safety is a core responsibility of all employees at Nalas. The Process Engineer must
maintain strict adherence to Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) standards and
Process Safety Management (PSM) requirements. This includes active participation in
Management of Change (MOC) and Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures, ensuring all work
is conducted safely and in compliance with company policies.
The role includes accurate documentation of batch records and production activities, while
continuously identifying opportunities to improve productivity, quality, and safety.
This is a full-time position, Monday through Friday. The Process Engineer–Manufacturing
supports the execution of production campaigns to meet internal and external customer
deadlines. Production demands may require flexibility in work hours to support company
objectives.
Position Requirements
Qualifications and skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering (5 years experience) or MS/PhD degree in Chemical Engineering (2 years experience) with strong emphasis in the related discipline.
- Skilled in data analysis and problem-solving techniques necessary to perform scientific/engineering work.
- Highly proficient with calculating and reviewing material balances for Nalas processes and products.
- Extensive experience in the implementation and operation of chemical process equipment.
- Highly skilled at process equipment troubleshooting with the ability to identify, fix, and adequately document process disruptions and changes.
- Proficiency operating and training personnel on control software such as LabVIEW and SCADA platforms.
- Proficiency and knowledge of continuous and batch chemical operations including kinetics, mixing, heat flow and the associated process safety to design and meet production goals.
- Proficient in generating and manipulating data, as well as computer programs such as MS Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook and literature reviews
- Experienced in reviewing the available literature, including Nalas generated reports and batch records, to gain a better understanding of historical and current processes/methods.
Technical Contributions
- Identifies strategies for process optimization with an eye towards green commercial processes.
- Experience in the startup of new chemical processes at manufacturing scale.
- Exhibits technical and operational proficiency solving problems of increasing complexity.
- Performs chemical engineering analysis including mass and energy balances.
- Applies knowledge of unit operations such as reaction kinetics, crystallization, and isolation techniques toward Nalas portfolio of critical chemicals.
- Applies solid understanding of variance and sources of experimental error to process data.
- Leverages and applies technical literature to solve problems
- Experience in reviewing process safety and process development reports.
- Experience in reviewing and updating P&ID documentation
- Experience in the repair and maintenance of equipment
- Experience in working in a chemical manufacturing environment
- Knowledge of waste management, toxicity hazards and SafeBridge classifications
- Independently author Operating Procedures and Batch Records.
- Follow and lead the MOC process for process changes.
- Provide training, guidance, and mentorship to operators and junior engineers
Lab Proficiency
- Always operate in a safe and efficient manner and follows Nalas SAF Procedures.
- Knowledgeable of waste management, toxicity hazards and SafeBridge classification.
- Proficient with a variety of laboratory equipment (e.g., RC-1, EasyMax, ReactIR, React Raman, Easy viewer, FBRM) including basic data analysis of each discrete tool/technique (desirable)
- Can complete and train others on complex equipment setups, quickly assembles laboratory equipment to conduct, evaluate and characterize chemical processes.
- Adept at maintaining production batch records in a manner which allows others to understand findings from each experiment, including interpretations, conclusions, and path forward for further experimentation.
- Anticipate potential obstacles to accurate record-keeping, such as time constraints or complex processes, and implement solutions like streamlining procedures or investing in better technology
- Articulate the critical role of accurate batch records in product quality, safety, regulatory compliance, and the company's overall success
Customer-Facing Contributions
- Periodically presents units of work (slides, reports, etc.) to support/as technical leads, and customer updates.
- Participates in customer Site tours.
External Contributions
- Provide impact and direction to the project portfolio, including contributing to technical sections of proposals and statements of work.

- HAZARDOUS DUTY: Incumbent is regularly exposed to the hazard of chemical and explosive ingredients. The danger inherent in this type of work cannot be completely eliminated by established SOP's and/or safety equipment. Incumbent may be responsible for hazardous and universal waste collection, consolidation, segregation, and proper storage and labeling. Incumbent may be responsible for performing emergency response activities, emergency response clean-up, hazardous waste clean-up, and the handling of hazardous waste materials when training is provided.
Pay: $79,600.00 - $123,700.00 per year
