Position Summary
The International Student Advisor serves as the primary contact and resource for international students at West Virginia Wesleyan College, supporting their academic, personal, and cultural adjustment while ensuring compliance with federal regulations governing international education. As a federally authorized Designated School Official (DSO), the Advisor is responsible for maintaining accurate SEVIS records and ensuring institutional adherence to federal requirements.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Serve as a Designated School Official (DSO) for the College’s F-1 visa program, ensuring compliance with all SEVP and SEVIS reporting requirements.
- Advise international students on F-1 visa regulations, including enrollment status, work authorization (CPT/OPT), travel, and reinstatement processes.
- Assist students in navigating academic, personal, and cultural adjustment issues by providing one-on-one advising, referrals, and programming.
- Collaborate with Admissions, Registrar, Financial Aid, and Academic Affairs to support international student recruitment, enrollment, and retention.
- Oversee orientation and onboarding programs for new international students, including arrival support and cultural adjustment activities.
- Maintain accurate student records and institutional documentation related to international student enrollment, status, and compliance.
- Develop and implement educational workshops and resources on immigration regulations, employment options, and intercultural engagement.
- Monitor and communicate changes in immigration regulations and update institutional policies and procedures as needed.
- Participate in professional development and serve as a campus resource on international student issues.
- Bachelor’s degree required. Higher education experience preferred.
- U.S. citizenship or lawful permanent residency (required by SEVP for DSO designation).
- Minimum of two years of experience working with international students or in a related higher education setting.
- Strong understanding of F-1 visa regulations and SEVIS requirements.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and intercultural skills.
