Title: Exceptional Student Services Supervisor
Qualifications
- Valid Louisiana teacher’s certificate; master’s degree preferred
- Special education certification preferred
- Five years of teaching experience or related field
Job Goal: The Supervisor of Exceptional Student Services (ESS) is responsible for overseeing the delivery of specialized educational programs and support services to students with exceptional needs within an ESS Community, ensuring compliance with legal mandates and best practices. This role involves managing a team of special education teachers, therapists, and related service providers, coordinating individualized education plans (IEPs), and advocating for the needs of exceptional students within the ESS Community. Additionally, the Supervisor is committed to providing a high-quality education that fosters the academic growth and overall development of students, ensuring they elevate to their maximum potential.

- Leadership and Program Development
- Develop, implement, and oversee specialized educational programs and support services for students with exceptional needs.
- Provide leadership in the development and evaluation of curriculum and instructional strategies tailored to the needs of exceptional students.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, including IDEA, Section 504, and ADA requirements.
- Follow state, federal, and board policies
- Monitor and maintain accurate records related to Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) and other mandated documentation.
- Supervise, support, and progress monitor special education teachers, therapists, and related service providers relative to student success
- Plan, facilitate, and evaluate success of professional development opportunities to build staff capacity in delivering effective instruction and support for exceptional students.
- Serve as a liaison between schools, families, and community agencies to ensure coordinated services and advocacy for exceptional students.
- Collaborate with administrators and educators to create effective educational environments and promote best practices in special education.
- Actively lead and participate in effective collaboration routines which analyze student performance data to assess program effectiveness and implement strategies for continuous improvement.
- Foster academic, social, and emotional growth by ensuring students receive high-quality education and services tailored to their unique needs.
- Address concerns and resolve conflicts involving students, families, and staff related to exceptional services within ESS Community.
- Mediate disputes and provide guidance to ensure appropriate solutions in alignment with district policies and regulations within ESS Community.
- Participate in strategic planning for district-wide initiatives impacting exceptional student services.
- Assist in developing policies and procedures to improve the delivery of special education services and maintain consistency across the district.
- Prepare and present accurate reports to district leadership and the school board on the progress and effectiveness of exceptional student services.
- Maintain open and transparent communication with stakeholders to foster trust and engagement.
- Stay current with trends, research, and legal updates in special education to guide program development and implementation.
- Evaluate and refine service delivery models to ensure they meet the evolving needs of exceptional students.
