Title: Senior / Principal Scientist, Assay Development

Position Overview: We are seeking an experienced Senior/ Principal Scientist to lead DNA isolation and sample input compatibility development within the Assay Development group. In this role, you will define and expand the range of application-relevant biological sample types that are compatible with our genome mapping workflow, from DNA isolation through sample preparation chemistry. You will lead this development effort end to end, coordinate closely with other Assay Development project leads and serve as the group’s technical resource on input material and DNA isolation. This is a hands-on, bench-based role: you will personally design, execute, and troubleshoot the experiments that drive the project, while providing technical leadership on fast-paced, cross-functional efforts.

Responsibilities:

• Own and drive development projects from design to implementation, establishing and extending the baseline compatibility of application-relevant input material types with our current sample preparation chemistry
• Personally design, execute, and troubleshoot bench experiments, generating and interpreting the primary data that drives project decisions
• Optimize DNA isolation and, where necessary, sample preparation chemistry to accommodate critical sample types and improve workflow performance, reproducibility, downstream data quality, and compatibility with automation
• Evaluate a broad range of clinically and commercially relevant biological sample types across different collection, stabilization, and storage conditions
• Serve as the Assay Development team’s primary technical contact for input sample type and DNA isolation questions and maintain current awareness of DNA isolation technologies and approaches used across long-read and other genomics platforms
• Collaborate with Product Management and Commercial teams to translate customer needs and market feedback into DNA isolation and sample preparation workflow improvements
• Perform robust data analysis (using standard statistical or software-based tools) to interpret experimental results, identify trends, and inform next steps
• Effectively communicate findings, data analysis, and recommendations to cross-functional teams and other stakeholders
• Prepare clear and concise presentations, summaries, and reports to ensure alignment between project progress and objectives

Requirements:

• PhD in biochemistry, molecular biology, or related field with 5 years of industry experience in genomics or other biotechnology field
• Strong theoretical and practical knowledge of DNA isolation and manipulation techniques using enzymatic reactions
• Hands-on experience isolating high-quality, high-molecular-weight DNA from a variety of biological source materials
• Strong desire to remain primarily bench-based, personally executing experiments while providing technical leadership
• Demonstrated experience in optimizing and troubleshooting complex biological assays
• Demonstrated ability to lead development projects and coordinate work across teams.
• Experience with sample preparation automation is a plus
• Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to multitask in a fast-paced startup environment
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required
