What are the responsibilities and job description for the Nanodetector Scientist position at Nabsys?

Be part of a dynamic team that is using nanotechnology to enable routine, accurate, cost-effective analysis of genomic structural variation, in support of our mission of elucidating the genetic underpinnings of disease, increasing diagnostic yield, and ultimately improving patient outcomes. Nabsys is the pioneer in high-definition electronic genome mapping.

Headquartered in Providence, RI, Nabsys uses proprietary electronic nanodetectors to analyze long DNA molecules traveling at high velocity. With the introduction of our revolutionary OhmX platform, Nabsys is setting a new standard for high-throughput genomic mapping, offering unprecedented resolution and scalability. This groundbreaking technology is uniquely capable of detecting large structural genomic changes that are often challenging to resolve with other methods, providing researchers and clinicians with critical insights that drive discoveries and advance precision medicine.

Title: Nanodetector Scientist

Nature of Role: As a Detector Scientist you will serve as an individual contributor reporting directly to the Director of Nanodetector Development. In this role, you will focus on developing automated run protocols that drive stable DNA transport and maximize the efficiency and data quality of electronic detection through our nanodetector chips. Drawing on your expertise at the intersection of microfluidics, physics, and nanotechnology, you'll address challenges across both instrument- and detector-level fluidics. Your work will involve applying data-driven methods to optimize platform performance, collaborating with cross-functional teams to seamlessly integrate improvements, and continuously seeking new technologies and methods to enhance performance. This hands-on, innovative position demands strong technical acumen, a problem-solving mindset, and the desire to help drive product development forward.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and optimize automated run protocols that control DNA transport through both instrument- and detector-level fluidics
  • Design and execute comprehensive test plans to critically evaluate detector modifications (designs, materials, and treatments), driving data-driven improvements in performance
  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including Engineering, Assay Development, and Software, to integrate detector-focused solutions into the overall platform
  • Prepare clear, detailed data analysis reports and documentation, translating findings into actionable insights that support ongoing development efforts
  • Stay current with emerging technologies in microfluidics, nanotechnology, and related fields to help identify new opportunities for innovation and efficiency gains

Requirements:

  • Ph.D. in Physics, Engineering, Biochemistry, or a related field (M.S. with equivalent experience considered)
  • 2-5 years of hands-on experience with microfluidic systems, lab-on-chip devices, or related bioanalytical instrumentation involving fluid handling and analytical detection
  • Experience with pressure-driven flow systems, electro kinetics, and fluid dynamics at micro/nano scales
  • Experience working with DNA or related biomolecules in microfluidic instrumentation
  • Experience with MEMS/NEMS devices and their integration into microfluidic workflows is highly desirable
  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills, coupled with the ability to design experiments, interpret complex data, and implement effective solutions
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to excel in cross-functional, interdisciplinary environments

Compensation:

  • Competitive salary and bonus structure
  • Equity stake
  • Benefits include health, dental, vision, 401(k) plan with 50% match up to 6% of base salary, unlimited vacation, and life insurance
