Though n-Lorem is pioneering a novel non-profit model, to provide personalized experimental ASO treatments for free, for life to patients with the rarest of mutations (nano-rare), we are functionally a biotechnology company. We have a large and growing portfolio of ASO medicine discovery programs, ASO medicines in development and multiple clinical programs.

Role Overview

Working closely with and under the guidance of the Associate Director of Accounting, the contract Sr. Accountant will provide services on a contract basis, including maintaining accurate financial records, processing accounts payable, assisting with month-end closing, bank reconciliations, and ensuring compliance with standard accounting practices. This role requires high attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and the ability to handle confidential information with discretion. The contract Sr. Accountant will also provide assistance with payroll processing and payroll related tasks.

The contract Sr. Accountant will work closely with departments across the organization, to obtain expenditure approvals and support program operations. This role requires strong attention to detail, the ability to manage multiple priorities, and thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.


Key Responsibilities


  • Accounting & Financial Reporting
  • Perform monthly reconciliations and investigate discrepancies within ten business days of month-end.
  • Prepare and post journal entries with complete documentation; maintain general ledger accuracy.
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP and the Foundation’s internal controls and accounting procedures.
  •  Provide periodic reporting for grants and contracts.
  •  Assist in budget reporting, special projects and analysis reports.


Accounting Operations and Control

  • Enter income and disbursements, maintaining complete supporting documentation in a timely manner.
  •  Provide deposit reports to fundraising team weekly.
  • Prepare customer invoices/pledges as requested.
  • Process vendor and consultant invoices within two business days of receipt, ensuring complete documentation, approvals, and accurate coding to grant and project budgets in alignment with funding restrictions and approved budgets.
  • Manage weekly credit card expense allocation and monthly reconciliation.
  • Support onboarding of new vendors into the accounting system by assisting with setup, collecting required documentation, and training them on invoice submission processes, documentation standards and payment timelines.
  • Prepare purchase orders as requested.
  • Coordinate vendor and consultant payments, proactively sourcing invoices, and responding to payment inquiries with follow-through resolution in a timely manner (generally within 48 hours).


Audit, Tax & Compliance

  • Provide audit support as requested.
  • Maintain vendor W-9 records and prepare 1099 filings.
  • Assist in audit reports and support at the end of the year.


Payroll & Benefits Administration

  • Assist in payroll account maintenance, processing and compliance.
  • Prepare time reports as requested.


Additional Responsibilities

  • Prepare financial information for other purposes (e.g., regulatory requirements, grant reporting and reimbursement requests) in coordination with other staff.
  • Process transactions and journal entries related to special projects; reconcile grants management information to the general ledger for all special projects.
  • Monitor compliance with grants and other agreements and laws and regulations.
  • Support the development of policies and procedures as needed.


Key Requirements

  • Contractor must have valid U.S. work authorization.
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field required.
  • Minimum of 5 years of accounting experience. QuickBooks experience required.
  • High proficiency in MS Office, including Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint.


Additional Requirements

  • This role requires a minimum of 4 dedicated hours per day, Monday–Friday, during PT business hours for real-time coordination. Additional hours may be worked flexibly as needed based on workload and the AP cycle. Total hours are expected to vary but not exceed approximately 80 hours per month.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and organizational skills.
  • High level of integrity, fiscal responsibility, and alignment with mission-driven work.
  • Support the development of policies and procedures and ensure adherence as needed.
  • Understanding confidentiality protocols and protecting personal information.
  • The ability to organize and prioritize projects and multiple tasks effectively and on time.
  • Act as a liaison with partners and vendors.
  • The ability to work independently with minimal daily oversight.
