What are the responsibilities and job description for the Senior Casualty Claims Adjuster (N&D) position at N&D Union Mutual Insurance?
Responsibilities:
· Manage a complex casualty claims caseload, including bodily injury, general liability, and multi-party losses.
· Conduct thorough investigations, including recorded statements, liability analysis, damage evaluation, and coverage determination.
· Identify and evaluate exposure, negligence, comparative fault, and causation issues.
· Establish and maintain accurate, timely reserves consistent with company guidelines and actuarial expectations.
· Manage litigated claims from inception through resolution, including selection, direction, and oversight of defense counsel.
· Develop and execute litigation strategies in collaboration with defense counsel to control costs and achieve favorable outcomes.
· Review discovery, expert reports, and evaluations; attend mediations, arbitrations, and settlement conferences as required.
· Evaluate settlement opportunities and negotiate resolutions within assigned authority or present recommendations for higher authority.
· Analyze policy language and endorsements to determine coverage applicability and exposure.
· Issue reservation of rights and coverage position letters in accordance with regulatory and company standards.
· Ensure compliance with all applicable state regulations, DOI requirements, and internal best practices.
· Control indemnity and expense spend through proactive claim strategy and effective vendor oversight.
· Approve and monitor legal invoices, expert fees, and vendor costs to ensure reasonableness and adherence to guidelines.
· jServe as a primary point of contact for insureds, claimants, agents, and attorneys on complex claims.
· Communicate clearly and professionally regarding claim status, strategy, and resolution.
· Document all claim activity accurately and thoroughly within the claims management system.
Qualifications and Skills:
· 7 years of casualty claims handling experience, including complex bodily injury and litigated claims.
· Strong working knowledge of liability laws, negligence standards, and insurance coverage principles.
· Demonstrated experience managing defense counsel and complex litigation.
· Proven negotiation skills with a track record of effective claim resolution.
· Ability to work independently, prioritize workload, and make sound decisions within authority.
· Proficiency with claims management systems and standard office software.
