Summary:
The product Quality Technician performs a broad range of product and process quality activities supporting injection molding operations. This role works with limited supervision, helps drive day-to-day quality execution on the floor, and provides guidance to less experienced team members
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following but not limited to.
- Perform routine and non-routine quality inspections for injection molded components (incoming, in-process, and final), using established inspection plans, work instructions, and sampling requirements.
- Identify, document, and communicate molding-related defects (e.g., short shots, flash, sink, voids, burn marks, splay, warpage, knit lines, gate vestige) and escalate trends appropriately.
- Support containment activities for quality issues (segregation, identification, labeling, traceability, and verification of rework/sort activities).
- Collect and analyze quality data (defect rates, scrap, rework, yields) and provide clear summaries to Quality, Manufacturing, and Engineering partners.
- Assist with structured problem solving and corrective actions (e.g., 5 Whys, fishbone/Ishikawa, Pareto), including verifying effectiveness of actions taken.
- Verify quality requirements after process changes (e.g., start-ups, tooling adjustments, parameter changes, material/resin changes) by completing required checks and documenting results.
- Maintain accurate quality records and support updates to quality documentation (inspection check sheets, defect criteria, visual aids, work instructions) to improve consistency and efficiency.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with Manufacturing, Process Engineering, Tooling/Maintenance, and other teams to support quality and delivery objectives.
- Prioritize and complete assigned work with limited supervision; manage workload to support production needs.
- Provide routine guidance and knowledge sharing to less experienced employees to strengthen team capability.
- All other duties may be assigned according to business needs.
Education and Experience:
- High School diploma or GED required. Bachelor’s degree in engineering (Mechanical, Industrial, Electrical, or related) preferred
- 2 years of experience in a manufacturing quality role (inspection/quality technician) or equivalent hands-on manufacturing experience with strong quality responsibility.
- Bilingual Spanish/English proficiency (verbal and written).
- Ability to read and interpret drawings/specifications and follow standard operating procedures and inspection instructions.
- Working knowledge of basic measurement tools and inspection methods (e.g., calipers, micrometers, height gauges, pin gauges; visual standards).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; ability to identify trends and support issue resolution.
- Ability to manage workload independently with limited supervision; strong attention to detail.
- Ability to communicate clearly with production and closely related teams.
- Basic computer skills for documentation and reporting (spreadsheets, data entry, quality systems).
- Intermediate knowledge of the following Quality Tools:
- Statistical Process Control (SPC): Ability to use control charts, process capability analysis, and understand variation.
- Root Cause Analysis Tools: Proficiency with tools such as 5 Whys, Fishbone (Ishikawa) Diagrams, and Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA).
- Measurement System Analysis (MSA): Understanding of Gage R&R studies and calibration techniques.
- Pareto Analysis: Ability to prioritize problems using Pareto charts.
- Basic Knowledge of the following Quality Methodologies:
- Lean Manufacturing Principles: Familiarity with concepts such as waste reduction, 5S, and standard work.
- Six Sigma Methodology: Understanding of DMAIC (Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, Control) process and basic statistical analysis.
- Continuous Improvement (Kaizen): Experience participating in or leading Kaizen events and improvement teams.
- Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPA): Ability to document, implement, and verify effectiveness of CAPA processes.
Pay: $18.00 per hour
