Job Summary
The Paraprofessional plays a key role in supporting student achievement by actively engaging learners and helping maintain a structured, productive classroom environment. This position supports instructional activities under the direction of a classroom teacher and assists with non-instructional responsibilities under the supervision of an Assistant Director.
Responsibilities
- Support classroom instruction and collaborate closely with the classroom teacher
- Assist with classroom management using an assertive discipline model and effective redirection strategies
- Uphold and enforce school policies and expectations
- Provide support during group and independent work periods
- Reinforce positive learning behaviors (e.g., attentiveness, engagement, organization)
- Lead small-group instruction in reading, language, math, writing, reasoning, and/or spelling, as assigned
- Monitor student progress and provide targeted support to those needing additional assistance
- Assist with grading, recording, and tracking student work as directed by the teacher
- Help students correct work, answer questions, and engage in reading activities
- Track incomplete assignments and communicate with the teacher as needed
- Administer assessments, checkouts, or retests as directed
- Participate in assigned duties, including morning arrival, lunch/recess, and dismissal
- Attend Back-to-School Night and other required school events
- Participate in professional development and ongoing training
- Perform additional duties as assigned by members of the Leadership Team
- High school diploma required
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to analyze information, solve problems, and draw sound conclusions
- Ability to work in alignment with school policies and all applicable state and federal regulations
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively in a team-oriented environment
- Strong instructional support and classroom management skills
- Successful completion of applicable MTEL exams within one year of employment
