Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Billing & Denials Specialist to join our healthcare administration team. The ideal candidate will possess a comprehensive understanding of medical billing processes, insurance claims management, and denial resolution. In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring accurate billing, effectively managing denials, and optimizing revenue cycle operations. Your expertise in medical coding, healthcare claims, and customer service will be instrumental in maintaining smooth financial workflows and supporting patient satisfaction.
Education:
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Medical billing certificate (CPB, CPC, or similar) or coursework in medical billing and coding is a plus, not required.
Responsibilities
- Work rejected and denied claims through to payment
- Research denial reasons and fix the root cause, not just the claim
- File appeals and resubmissions inside timely filing deadlines
- Track aging and report on outstanding AR weekly
- Post payments and reconcile remittances
- Verify authorizations before claims go out
- Support Medicaid and VA billing, and learn both books
Skills
- 2 years of medical billing experience, with real time spent on denials and AR
- Working knowledge of CARC/RARC denial codes and appeal processes
- Comfortable in Excel; accurate and organized under deadline pressure
- Able to work independently and follow through without being chased
- Home care, home health, or Medicaid billing experience strongly preferred
- HHAeXchange experience is a significant plus
- NC Medicaid or VA community care billing experience will move you to the top of the list
Schedule and pay
- $22–25/hr depending on experience
- 32-35 hours per week, on-site in Wilson; Monday-Thursday 9a-4p; Fri 9a-1p
- Paid weekly
- 19 paid vacation days per year
- Paid one-hour lunch break
- Office closes at 1:00 pm every Friday
