The AWS Data Center Systems team is seeking an experienced Software Development Manager to lead a team that owns critical software services that help improve the resiliency, security, and cost efficiency of data centers. As an engineering leader, you will have end-to-end responsibility, from building a highly performing team, helping define requirements, to delivering features directly contribute to the high availability of AWS data centers, and Amazon's sustainability goals.
The ideal candidate has experience driving change across diverse objectives, without compromising service integrity. You have the ability to own the development lifecycle as well as the continuous testing and deployment of software systems. You draw from a breadth of expertise to both mentor engineers and complete your own hands-on technical work. You provide leadership on complex issues by building trust out of good data.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $166,400/year in our lowest geographic market up to $287,700/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. - Lead and mentor a team of software engineers: Foster a collaborative and high-performing team environment, providing guidance and support to your engineers to help them achieve their full potential.
- Define the technical vision and roadmap: Work closely with product managers and stakeholders to define the technical roadmap for your area of responsibility, ensuring alignment with overall business goals.
- Own the software development lifecycle: Oversee the entire software development lifecycle, from requirement gathering and design to development, testing, and deployment.

Basic Qualifications
- 7 years of working directly within engineering teams experience
- 3 years of designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
- Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations
- Experience managing a team of high calibre Software Engineers developing complex, world class, scalable software systems that have been successfully delivered to customers
- Experience designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems
- Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers
- Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy
