JOB PURPOSE
The Cost Analyst is responsible for analyzing and monitoring job-level financial performance to support informed business decisions.
This role focuses on tracking material, labor, and overhead costs, identifying margin drivers, and providing actionable insights to improve operational and financial performance.
The ideal candidate will work closely with project managers and leadership to ensure that accurate profitability analyses are performed and to improve overall financial outcomes.
JOB RESPONSIBILITY SUMMARY
- Analyze profitability including revenue, material, labor, and overhead costs
- Track actual costs against estimates, identifying variances in material usage, labor hours, and production efficiency
- Partner with estimators and production managers to evaluate estimate accuracy and job performance
- Prepare detailed profitability analyses and margin report
- Investigate cost overruns related to scrap, rework, machine downtime, and labor inefficiencies
- Monitor and analyze key drivers of profitability, including material yield, shop labor utilization, and machine run rates
- Support continuous improvement by identifying trends and recommending cost control measures
- Assist in refining profitability analysis methodologies, including labor routing and overhead allocation
- Ensure accurate cost capture from shop floor systems (e.g., time tracking, material usage)
- Develop dashboards or reports to track profitability and production KPIs
- Communicate financial insights to operations teams in a clear, practical manner
- Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned or as necessary to support the overall success of the organization.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES

Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- The ability to successfully complete training programs provided by MYER after recruitment.
Experience
- 1–3 or more years in accounting, cost accounting, or financial analysis experience.
Special Knowledge/Skills
- Strong understanding of job costing and profitability analysis.
- Excellent written and organizational skills with attention to detail.
- Must be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, lookups, data analysis).
- Experience with accounting or ERP systems.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with a diverse team.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to schedule daily activities, as well as the work of others.
- Ability to develop specific goals and plans to prioritize, organize, and accomplish your work.
- Ability to analyze information and evaluate results to choose the best solution and solve problems.
Physical Requirements
- Vision: able to see and utilize fine work tools, computer screens; able to move through the office, production floor, and from point to point to find specific co-workers and in-house experts.
- Hearing: able to hear sufficiently to engage in conversation. Able to hear safety alerts and warning signals.
- Speaking: able to engage in conversations in person and deliver information to groups of varying size.
- Equipment Operation: Able to operate standard office equipment (computer, phone, copier, electronic identification card to entire buildings and floors, etc.) and utilize electronic ID to enter buildings. Able to operate shop tools and overhead cranes as needed to assist on projects.
- Carrying: able to occasionally carry up to 50lbs when transporting documents, tools, or work pieces.
- Lifting: able to occasionally lift up to 50 lbs.
- Pushing/Pulling: able to push/pull equipment, tools, cart, etc. on shop floor, or office chairs, and other office equipment in office environment.
- Sitting: able to sit for extended periods of time in front of a computer, writing, or participating in meetings.
- Squatting/Kneeling: able to occasionally squat or kneel to retrieve items or handle items.
- Standing: able to stand for extended periods of time.
- Walking: able to walk through office and production areas, around machinery and equipment sometimes on uneven indoor or outdoor surfaces.
