What are the responsibilities and job description for the Independent Living Skills Trainer (57) position at My Valley Community Services, Inc.?
You will work with intellectually disadvantaged adults (often autistic) teaching them simple life skills (basic budgeting, following a simple Recipes, basics of street safety, socializing . . .) The goal is to prepare the client to lead a more independent life to his or her fullest potential. All our clients come from the Los Angeles County Regional Center and our work area is limited to San Fernando Valley only. You will not do physical work (picking up, showering, cleaning . . . of the client). You will visit your clients at their homes or a community spot such as libraries, coffee shops, malls, bookstores etc. Our clients are not aggressive and are often mild-mannered and easy to work with. You will start with one or two clients so the job is part-time to begin with. Then if we are happy with your work, and if you wish and request, you can work with more clients and have more hours (we usually have a long list of clients waiting for service).
To be effective at this job, you need to be kind, compassionate, with excellent communication skills. In this job, you are an educator, a planner, a big brother/sister, a friend and a trustworthy take-charger with a passion to help others. Reliable transportation is a must.
If you feel this could be a good fit, we would love to hear from you. We will chat more and take it from there. Thank you!
