Hourly Rate: $40 - $45 per hour



This is a temporary position, expected to run through August 7, 2026. The role is intended to provide coverage during a period of leave and will conclude at that time.


About the Role 


We are searching for a highly industrious Workforce Development Specialist to promote work readiness with our clients. You will serve as a vital link between our clients and the resources they need to improve their job skills and find gainful employment. The successful candidate should be knowledgeable about adult-centered teaching practices. Your primary responsibilities will include researching and identifying available educational programs, certifications, and job training resources in the DMV area, connecting our clients with these resources, and building strong partnerships with local businesses to facilitate job placement. Additionally, you will lead workshops and facilitate two small-scale career fairs for MSP clients to enhance workplace skills and provide guidance and support to our clients throughout their job search journey.  

This is a temporary position expected to continue through August 7, 2026, covering a leave of absence. This is also a hybrid position and is expected to be in the office 2-3 days a month.  


About My Sister’s Place 


My Sister's Place is a community of staff, volunteers, and advocates committed to eradicating domestic violence. As DC's oldest domestic violence shelter, we have served as a cornerstone of the district's response to this pressing public health issue since 1979. MSP is unique in offering a continuum of care from emergency shelter through transitional-to-permanent housing. Our experienced team of case managers and residential counselors provide clinical counseling, case management, and comprehensive services to empower survivors to recover and thrive. MSP also provides training, case consultation, and advocacy to engage communities to prevent violence and abuse. 


What You’ll Be Doing 


  • Client Assessment and Guidance 
  • Work with Program Managers to assess client needs 
  • Collaborate with clients to assess their skill development needs and career objectives. 
  • Provide personalized guidance and career development plans. 
  • Identify and recommend relevant training programs, certifications, and educational opportunities. 
  • Resource Coordination 
  • Research and compile information on relevant classes, certifications, and job training programs in the DMV area. 
  • Develop tailored plans for clients to access these resources and achieve their career goals. 
  • Connect clients with appropriate resources and monitor their progress. 
  • Assist clients in accessing financial aid or scholarships when applicable. 
  • Employer Engagement and Business Networking 
  • Establish and nurture relationships with local businesses, HR departments, and industry associations. 
  • Collaborate with businesses to identify job opportunities and promote hiring initiatives for our clients. 
  • Facilitate job placements and internship opportunities for clients. 
  • Plan and facilitate two small-scale career fairs for MSP clients 
  • Skills Development Workshops: 
  • Design and lead workshops on essential workplace skills, such as communication, problem-solving, and time management. 
  • Provide coaching and support to clients in areas such as resume writing, interview preparation, and professional communication. 
  • Documentation and Reporting: 
  • Maintain detailed, accurate, and confidential records of client interactions, resource referrals, and job placements. 
  • Compile data on program outcomes and success stories. 
  • Prepare regular reports for management and funders. 
  • Continuous Learning: 
  • Stay up to date with industry trends, workforce development best practices, and educational resources in the DMV area. 


Qualifications 


  • At least 3-5 years in workforce development, career counseling, recruiting, or related roles. 
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (e.g., Education, Counseling, Business Administration). 
  • Strong knowledge of local DMV resources for job training, education, and certification programs. 
  • Exceptional networking and relationship-building skills. 
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills. 
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team. 
  • Ability to build and maintain professional relationships with clients and employers. 
  • Empathy, patience, and a genuine commitment to helping individuals achieve their career goals.
