What are the responsibilities and job description for the Commissioning Manager position at MXI Partners?
MXI Partners are searching for a Commissioning Manager for a rapidly growing general contractor specializing in the delivery of complex, mission-critical data center infrastructure. Our client provides construction management, MEP oversight, commissioning, and project delivery services across highly technical environments where safety, quality, reliability, and operational performance are critical.
What you'll do:
- Lead commissioning activities across L1–L5 from planning through integrated systems testing and final handover
- Develop and maintain commissioning plans, schedules, procedures, checklists, and related documentation
- Coordinate commissioning activities across project teams, MEP trades, vendors, engineers, and client stakeholders
- Define commissioning milestones, manage readiness, and ensure systems are prepared for testing and energization
- Oversee functional performance testing and support Integrated Systems Testing (IST) and scenario-based validation
- Identify, track, and resolve commissioning deficiencies through to final closure
- Provide commissioning-focused oversight of MEP construction quality, installation readiness, and system completeness
- Participate in coordination meetings, site walks, inspections, and provide technical input on constructability and sequencing
- Support project reporting, risk identification, schedule alignment, and recovery planning for commissioning activities
- Maintain and control all commissioning documentation, ensuring compliance with project requirements, standards, and QA/QC processes
What you bring:
- Proven experience in data center, mission-critical, industrial, or similarly complex MEP environments.
- Demonstrable experience managing or leading commissioning activities through L1–L5.
- Strong understanding of electrical and mechanical building systems and their interdependencies.
- Experience working directly with MEP contractors, construction teams, engineers, controls contractors, and equipment vendors.
- Strong knowledge of commissioning methodologies, functional performance testing, and integrated systems testing.
- Experience reviewing drawings, specifications, sequences of operation, and technical documentation.
- Strong understanding of construction sequencing and MEP installation practices.
