What are the responsibilities and job description for the SUD PREVENTION & OUTREACH SPECIALIST position at Muskegon County?
The SUD Prevention and Outreach Specialist, under the direction of the Director of Substance Use Disorder Prevention and Treatment Services, will plan, implement, and evaluate data driven activities focused on preventing substance use disorder among residents and reducing associated community harm. The SUD Prevention and Outreach Specialist uses education, community, and environmental based strategies to address at-risk and general population needs.1. Possess a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with an area of specialization or concentration in health education, health sciences, social work, social sciences, public health, health administration or closely related field;
2. Must be able to obtain and maintain certification as a Certified Prevention Specialist (CPS), Certified Prevention Consultant (CPC), and/or Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES) within one (1) year of employment. A CPS Development Plan will be required within 60 days of hire if not already obtained.
3. Possess a valid driver’s license and the ability to obtain a Michigan Driver License within 30 days of employment.
4. Must have reliable transportation that may have to be used to carry out job duties of this classification.
Preferred but not Required
1. Bilingual candidates highly desired.
2. Lived experiences with mental illness/developmental disabilities/substance use disorders valued.
3. Individuals in Recovery and individuals with experience in Armed Services valued.

PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES
An employee in this class performs activities that require the ability to frequently bend, stoop and kneel; the ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time; the ability to traverse a multi-level facility, and work requiring the occasional lifting of objects weighing thirty-five (35) pounds or less.
ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS
An employee in this class works within the community at large, HealthWest and local agency offices, with considerable travel required throughout the County by use of personal resources. Work hours may include hours outside of an 8am-5pm schedule.
EVALUATION CONTENT
Applicants for County employment may be subject to a post-offer criminal background check, depending on the nature and assignment of the position. When such check is conducted, an offer of employment is contingent upon the results of the criminal background check. Appointees must satisfactorily complete a probationary period before the appointment will be considered permanent.

PURPOSE
The purpose of this recruitment is to establish an eligible list from which to fill present and future vacancies in this classification in the County system.
