Summary
The Science Facilitator Sea Turtle Walks Lead is responsible for overseeing the training
and implementation of the Sea Turtle Walks program, ensuring staff and volunteers are
following proper protocols and procedures. This position includes delivering high-quality
educational programming that engages diverse audiences in science learning. This
position includes public engagement through exhibit interpretation, science shows,
demonstrations, cart activities, ambassador animal handling, STEM classes, camps,
overnights, school and group programs, tours, and community events. This role
supports curriculum development, grant-aligned program delivery, and ensures
excellence in guest experience, safety, and floor operations.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in science, education, or related field (required); advanced degree or
equivalent experience preferred. Minimum 3–4 years of experience in museum
education, science communication, or classroom teaching. Minimum 3 seasons leading
Sea Turtle Walks and strong knowledge of sea turtles, the nesting process and proper
safety protocols. Strong customer service background and experience working with
youth. Excellent communication skills with the ability to present to large audiences.
Effective classroom and group management skills. Ability to work under pressure and
adapt in fast-paced, changing environments. Ability to lift and carry 25–50 lbs., stand for
long periods, and work indoors/outdoors in varying conditions. Valid driver’s license
preferred for outreach programming. First Aid, CPR, and AED certification (or ability to
obtain within first year).
