SUMMARY:
The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) serves as a strategic partner to the President & CEO and senior
leadership, providing financial stewardship and operational oversight in support of the Museum’s
mission. The CFO leads all financial, human resources, and administrative functions, ensuring strong
internal controls, regulatory compliance, and effective resource allocation to sustain and grow the
Museum’s programs, exhibitions, and community impact.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field. At least 6 years of professional experience at a
responsible leadership level in accounting and fiscal management, with supervisory experience. CPA
designation is helpful. Advanced computer literacy and experience in a variety of software applications
including MS Office. Excellent communication skills.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Provide executive leadership and oversight of all financial operations, including general accounting, restricted and unrestricted funds, grant compliance, and capital project accounting, ensuring alignment with nonprofit and museum industry standards.
2. Lead and manage Human Resources functions, including employee relations, compensation and benefits administration, and compliance with applicable employment laws and nonprofit best practices.
3. Oversee organizational risk management, including insurance programs, and manage key vendor relationships, including IT services, to support secure and efficient operations.
4. Prepare and present timely, accurate financial statements and management reports; develop cash flow projections to support payroll, exhibitions, capital improvements, and special events.
5. Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local reporting requirements, including preparation and oversight of financial reports and budgets for grants, contributions, and government funding sources.
6. Develop, implement, and continuously enhance financial systems, internal controls, and policies to safeguard assets, ensure donor intent compliance, and improve operational effectiveness.
7. Collaborate with legal counsel to review and negotiate contracts, including vendor agreements, exhibition contracts, and partnership arrangements.
8. Lead the annual budgeting process in collaboration with department leaders; monitor financial performance, analyze variances, and provide strategic recommendations to leadership.
9. Oversee the annual independent audits including the 401(k) and IRS Forms 990 preparation, ensuring transparency and adherence to nonprofit regulatory standards.
10. Serve as primary liaison to the Community Foundation of Broward, ensuring proper stewardship and reporting of the Museum’s investment portfolio and endowment funds.
11. Serve as staff liaison to the Finance Committee of the Board of Trustees; support governance activities, prepare financial materials, and coordinate closely with the Board Treasurer.
12. Oversee treasury operations, including cash management, liquidity planning, and maintaining strong banking relationships.
13. Support organizational strategy by aligning financial planning with long-term sustainability, growth initiatives, and the Museum’s mission.
14. Perform additional duties and participate in strategic initiatives as assigned by the President & CEO.
