What are the responsibilities and job description for the Hydraulic Engineer position at Mural Group?
The Opportunity
One of the most significant new steel manufacturing investments in U.S. history is in active commissioning in Apple Grove, West Virginia, a state-of-the-art sheet mill representing billions of dollars in capital investment and hundreds of new permanent jobs for the region. The facility is currently in its commissioning phase, with commercial production targeted for early 2027, and they need a Hydraulic Field Engineer who can take full ownership of the plant's hydraulic systems from the ground up.
This is a contract-to-hire opportunity with a direct path to a permanent role for the right performer. If you want to be part of building something significant from the start, this is a rare entry point.
What You'll Do
The facility runs complex, European-sourced equipment from global OEM suppliers including precision hydraulic architecture that goes deeper than what you typically see on domestic mill equipment. This is not a support role. You will have full-cycle ownership of the hydraulic systems across the plant: commissioning, preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and parts planning. You will work independently on the floor with minimal oversight and partner with site leadership on reliability goals.
Specifically:
- Full ownership of hydraulic system commissioning, PM, troubleshooting, and repair across an active heavy industrial facility
- Spares and parts planning for hydraulic components
- Continuous improvement initiatives on hydraulic systems and processes
- Field support for European-sourced equipment with complex hydraulic architecture
- Flexible split between hands-on floor work and office and documentation duties based on your preference
What We're Looking For
- Field engineer background with hands-on experience commissioning and servicing hydraulic systems on-site. Design-only backgrounds are not a fit.
- Direct OEM or contractor experience with Rexroth, Parker, or a comparable hydraulics platform
- Ability to read and interpret hydraulic schematics and equipment specifications
- Comfortable owning a system end-to-end and working independently in the field
- Steel or heavy industrial experience is a plus but not required. Field service depth and OEM platform knowledge matter more than industry pedigree.
