Position Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented and patient-focused Ophthalmic Educator / Surgery Scheduler to join our team. This dual-role position is responsible for educating patients about ophthalmic conditions and surgical procedures, while also coordinating and scheduling surgeries to ensure a seamless patient experience.
Key Responsibilities
Patient Education:
- Educate patients on ophthalmic conditions, treatment options, and surgical procedures
- Provide pre-operative and post-operative instructions clearly and compassionately
- Answer patient questions and address concerns regarding procedures and recovery
- Ensure patients understand consent forms and preparation requirements
Surgery Scheduling:
- Coordinate and schedule surgical procedures in collaboration with physicians and surgical centers
- Verify insurance coverage, obtain authorizations, and ensure all required documentation is complete
- Communicate surgery dates, times, and instructions to patients
- Maintain accurate scheduling records and update patient charts
Administrative Duties:
- Collaborate with clinical staff to ensure efficient workflow
- Maintain compliance with HIPAA and healthcare regulations
- Follow up with patients regarding appointments, cancellations, and rescheduling
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Excellent organizational and multitasking abilities
- Experience with electronic medical records (EMR) systems
- Ability to handle sensitive information with confidentiality
- Ability to work as a member of a team
- Ability to work in fast paced environments
- Ability to develop a strong relationship with our physicians
Preferred Skills
- Previous experience in ophthalmology or healthcare required
- Knowledge of ophthalmic surgical procedures
- Knowledge of dry eye services
- Knowledge of premium cataract lenses
- COA (Certified Ophthalmic Assistant) is a plus
- Experience with surgery scheduling and insurance verification
Pay: From $21.00 per hour
Expected hours: 39.0 per week
