Full time Instructional Assistant in the English Department
Qualifications:
- Valid Illinois license (ELS, PEL OR Substitute) - registered in Lake County, IL (region 34)
- Strong background in English instruction preferred
- Bilingual (Spanish) preferred
Job Summary:
- Works with individual students or small groups of students to reinforce learning of material or skills initially introduced by the teacher.
- Assists the teacher in devising special accommodations for reinforcing material or skills based on a sympathetic understanding of individual students, their needs, interests, and abilities.
- Guides independent study, enrichment work, and remedial work set up and assigned by the teacher.
- Supports throughout classroom lessons, reading, writing assessments and assignments.
- Administers, scores and records achievement and diagnostic tests as the teacher recommends for individual students.
- Assists the supervision of students during emergency drills, assemblies and field trips.
- Checks notebooks, corrects papers and supervises testing and make-up work as assigned by the teacher.
- Alerts the teacher to any problem or special information about an individual student.
- Maintains the same high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students as is expected of fully licensed teachers.
- Participates in in-service training programs, as assigned.
