Primary Purpose of Position

The IT Support Technician provides on-site technical support to ensure reliable technology systems that support teaching, learning, and daily school operations. This position works directly with teachers, staff, and administrators to maintain classroom technology, student devices, and building-level technology systems so educators can focus on teaching and students can focus on learning.


Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Provide technical support for instructional and administrative technology used by staff and students.
  • Install, configure, maintain, and repair computer hardware including desktops, laptops, printers, and related peripherals.
  • Support student and staff devices as part of the district’s 1:1 device program.
  • Troubleshoot, repair, and maintain student devices including basic hardware repairs such as screen replacements, keyboards, batteries, and other components as needed.
  • Assist with device check-in, checkout, and preparation of student devices at the beginning and end of the school year.
  • Respond to and resolve Helpdesk requests in a timely manner while maintaining accurate documentation of work performed.
  • Install, configure, and maintain operating systems, software applications, and system updates.
  • Create, deploy, and maintain device images and configurations.
  • Assist with installation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of classroom technology including:
  • Interactive displays
  • Projectors
  • Document cameras
  • Classroom audio systems
  • Presentation equipment
  • Troubleshoot wired and wireless network connectivity issues.
  • Assist with installation and maintenance of network cabling and equipment as needed.
  • Install, configure, and support district telephone systems and related communications equipment.
  • Assist with setup and maintenance of computer labs and shared instructional technology spaces.
  • Support and troubleshoot district software systems such as the Student Information System, Learning Management System, and other instructional platforms.
  • Provide technical support during state and district online testing periods by ensuring testing devices, networks, and required software platforms are functioning properly.
  • Assist teachers and staff with troubleshooting instructional technology used in classrooms.
  • Maintain accurate inventory records for technology equipment including computers, peripherals, classroom technology, and replacement parts.
  • Assist with technology inventory audits, asset tagging, and device tracking.
  • Assist with large-scale technology projects including device imaging, device deployment, equipment replacement, and classroom technology upgrades.
  • Participate in summer technology preparation including device refreshes, classroom technology installations, equipment inventory, and system updates.
  • Provide technology assistance to the building principal and staff as needed.
  • Participate in professional development to stay current with technology systems and best practices.
  • Serve on district committees as assigned.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Chief Technology Officer.

  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to communicate technical information clearly to non-technical users including teachers, students, and staff.
  • Strong organization skills and the ability to manage multiple requests simultaneously.
  • Ability to prioritize work effectively in a fast-paced school environment.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with district technology staff.
  • Working knowledge of:
  • Computer hardware and operating systems
  • Network connectivity and troubleshooting
  • Device deployment and imaging
  • Classroom audiovisual technology
  • Basic network services such as DNS and DHCP
  • Strong customer service skills and a positive attitude when supporting school staff and students.


Minimum Qualifications


Education (Preferred but not required)

Associate degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field, or equivalent experience.

Certifications (Preferred but not required)

CompTIA A

CompTIA Network

CompTIA Security


Experience

Experience providing technical support for computer systems, devices, and related technologies.

Experience supporting users in an educational or customer-service environment preferred.


Additional Requirements

Valid Indiana driver’s license required.

Ability to lift and move equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.

Ability to travel between district buildings as needed.

Occasional evening or weekend work may be required for technology projects or events.


Expectations of Employee

Work 260 days per year according to the support staff schedule.

Maintain a professional, respectful, and positive attitude when working with students, staff, and community members.

Demonstrate strong time management and the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.

Communicate regularly with supervisors and team members regarding issues and project progress.

Serve as a positive role model within the school community.


Working Environment

Educational building and office environments including classrooms, computer labs, and administrative offices. Work may involve use of ladders, lifting equipment, and installation of technology systems throughout school buildings.

Use of standard office and technical equipment including computers, networking equipment, hand tools, and audiovisual systems.
