The Role
The Multnomah Athletic Club is seeking a Youth Programs Afterschool Class Lead. This individual will work under the supervision of the Youth Programs Lead II and Youth Programs Manager and will assume the responsibility for developing and implementing an age-appropriate educational program for kids ages 3-6 years old. The curriculum must meet the emotional, physical, cognitive, and social needs of both the individual child and the group. The Youth Programs Afterschool Class Lead, will also provide supervision of assistant teachers including daily tasks, holding weekly meetings, and writing their annual reviews, as needed.
The position is a part-time position with the potential to gain more hours depending on availability.
Must be available Saturdays and Sundays from 8:30am-12:30pm

What You'll Do
- Work positively and cooperatively with others in the facility to maintain a friendly, customer-oriented team.
- Comply with and enforces club safety policies and procedures within the department and participates in all club related training and classes.
- Assist members in person, by telephone, and through e-mail regarding questions or concerns.
- Maintain reliable and consistent attendance.
- Ensure confidentiality of privileged information.
- Attend all required departmental trainings and staff meetings.
- Adhere to all club policies and departmental procedures.
- Plan an after school program for children ages 3-6 years old.
- Provide a warm, safe, and caring environment that is kept orderly, clean, and appealing.
- Plan, prepare, and implement a weekly curriculum with age-appropriate activities, subject to approval by the Youth Programs Lead II and Youth Programs Manager. Activities should be designed to promote physical, mental, and social development. Some activities include but are not limited to games, arts and crafts, music, and storytelling.
- Greet parents and children upon arrival and departure. Updates record of children in each room as they arrive and depart.
- Meet with parents or guardians to discuss their children’s progress and needs (physical, social, emotional, and cognitive), determine their priorities for their children and suggests ways that they can promote learning and development.
- Able to identify children showing signs of emotional, developmental and health related problems or concerns and discuss with the Youth Programs Lead II or Youth Programs Manager.
- Help parent and child as needed to separate in a manner that reduces anxiety and eases the child’s transition into class.
- Attend to children’s hygiene needs (toileting, diapering, etc.) and follows department specific procedures.
- Lead by example, enforces safety regulations, and applies appropriate behavior management techniques.
- Ensure confidentiality of privileged information.
- Able to keep track of the monthly budget for supplies.
- Maintain regular and predictable attendance.
- Attend all required departmental trainings including staff meetings.
- Required to participate in continuing education opportunities including OAEYC or other through another program that equals 16 hours.
- Adheres to all club policies and departmental procedures.
- Associate degree in early childhood education or minimum of two-year classroom experience working as a lead teacher in a preschool program is preferred.
- Demonstrate proficiency in Microsoft Office applications such as Excel, and Word.
- First Aid/ CPR certified and Recognizing & Reporting Child Abuse & Neglect training (or become certified within 90 days of hire)
- Competence, sound judgment, and self-control in working with children and parents.
- Ability and skill to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees and members.
- Ability to communicate clearly with parents and coworkers, both orally and written.
- Ability to compose professional business correspondence.
- Excellent customer service skills are a necessity.
- Ability to perform the essential job functions.
