Position Summary
The Convenience Store Clerk is responsible for providing excellent customer service, operating point-of-sale systems, maintaining a clean and safe store environment, and supporting daily store operations including merchandising, stocking, and basic food/beverage preparation.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Greet customers promptly and provide friendly, efficient service.
- Operate cash register/POS, process cash/credit transactions, and issue receipts accurately.
- Follow all age-restricted sales policies (tobacco, alcohol, lottery) and verify identification.
- Stock shelves, coolers, and displays; rotate product and check expiration dates.
- Maintain store cleanliness including restrooms, sales floor, and exterior areas.
- Assist with receiving deliveries and verifying product counts.
- Prepare and serve basic food and beverage items as needed.
- Monitor fuel pumps and respond to customer needs at the forecourt.
- Report safety hazards, suspicious activity, and maintenance needs to management.
- Support promotions and merchandising standards per company guidelines.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Strong customer service and communication skills.
- Ability to operate POS systems and handle cash accurately.
- Basic math skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to follow written procedures and comply with safety standards.
- Dependability and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Ability to work flexible hours including nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Ability to pass required background checks for restricted sales (as applicable).
Physical Demands and Work Environment
- Stand and walk for extended periods.
- Lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 pounds with or without accommodation.
- Frequent bending, reaching, and repetitive hand motions.
- Work in cooler/freezer environments for short periods.
