Mendon Truck Leasing & Rental is a full-service commercial truck leasing and maintenance company serving fleet customers throughout the region. Our Newark branch supports a high-volume diesel operation focused on safety, reliability, and keeping our customers on the road.

We are currently hiring two experienced diesel mechanics — one for our AM shift and one for our PM shift — to join our Newark team.

This is a Union 447 position commercial diesel repair role. We are seeking technicians with hands-on heavy-duty or fleet diesel experience.

What You’ll Do

Depending on classification (Class A or Class B), responsibilities include:

• Diagnose and repair diesel engines and related systems
• Perform transmission, driveline, and differential repairs
• Service steering, suspension, brake, axle, frame, electrical, hydraulic, and refrigeration systems
• Complete preventive maintenance inspections
• Read and interpret job orders
• Accurately document repairs using computer-based repair order systems
• Test drive commercial vehicles to verify repairs (CDL license)
• Perform roadside service when required

Class A mechanics work independently on complex diagnostics and repairs with limited supervision.
Class B mechanics perform most repairs with direction and support on more advanced assignments.

Qualifications

• Proven heavy-duty diesel truck experience required
• Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills
• Ability to communicate clearly, verbally and in writing
• Comfortable using a computer to complete repair documentation
• Valid driver’s license required
• CDL preferred (role includes operating commercial vehicles for testing and roadside service)
• Must provide own tools

Compensation

Union 447 wage scale:

Class B base rate: $33-34 per hour
Class A base rate: $35-36 per hour

First-year wage structure per union agreement:
• First 6 months: $1.00 below base rate
• Months 7–12: $0.50 below base rate
• Full base rate after 12 months

Schedule/ Location

Newark, NJ
AM Shift: 6:00 AM – 2:30 PM (1 opening)
PM Shift: 1:30 PM – 10:00 PM (1 opening)
