Summary: The Driver/Trainer is responsible for safely operating company vehicles to transport passengers while maintaining compliance with all federal, state, and company safety regulations. In addition, this position provides hands-on training and mentoring to new and current drivers to ensure compliance with MTI’s operational, safety, and customer service standards. The Driver/Trainer works closely with the Safety Coordinator and Operations Manager to promote a culture of safety, accountability, and professionalism throughout the organization.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Driving Duties
· Operate company vehicles (shuttle buses, vans, or sedans) safely and efficiently on assigned routes.
· Conduct thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections in compliance with DOT and company standards.
· Ensure passengers are transported in a safe, courteous, and timely manner.
· Maintain accurate trip logs, mileage records, and other required documentation.
· Report vehicle issues, incidents, or safety concerns immediately to the Fleet Department and Safety Coordinator.
· Adhere to all traffic laws, airport regulations, and company policies.
Training & Compliance Duties
· Conduct new driver orientations and in-vehicle training sessions.
· Evaluate driver performance through ride-alongs, safety observations, and refresher training.
· Coach and mentor drivers on defensive driving techniques, proper passenger interaction, and adherence to company standards.
· Partner with the Safety Coordinator to conduct incident reviews, retraining, and safety campaigns.
· Collaborate with the Operations Manager to ensure all drivers meet MTI standards for performance, appearance, and professionalism.
· Maintain training logs, certification records, and compliance files in coordination with HR and Safety.
· Assist in developing and updating driver training materials, manuals, and procedures.
Qualifications:
· High school diploma or equivalent required; additional safety or transportation certifications preferred.
· Minimum of three (5) years of professional driving experience, preferably in shuttle, limousine, or commercial passenger service.
· Valid CDL (Commercial Driver’s License) with Passenger Endorsement – Required
· Valid Georgia Driver’s License with a clean driving record
· Strong communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
· Knowledge of DOT safety regulations and airport operating procedures preferred.
· Ability to train and coach others effectively, maintaining professionalism and patience.
· Must pass a criminal background check, drug screening, and DOT physical (if applicable).
· Excellent driving record and knowledge of DOT safety regulations
· Strong interpersonal and communication skills
· Ability to work independently and remain professional under pressure
Experience:
- Bus Driving: 5 years (Required)
Work Environment:
- Work is performed in company vehicles, maintenance areas, and office/training spaces.
- Schedule may include weekdays, weekends, and holidays based on operational needs.
- Frequent interaction with passengers, drivers, and management staff.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and assist passengers as needed.
- Frequent walking, standing, bending, and sitting for extended periods while operating vehicles
