What are the responsibilities and job description for the Senior Quality & Metrology Technician position at MTD Micro Molding?
Take the Lead in an Advanced Precision Metrology Lab
MTD Micro Molding manufactures ultra-small, highly complex components for medical and healthtech applications, including minimally invasive devices, overmolded components, and bioabsorbable implants.
We're looking for an experienced Senior Quality & Metrology Technician with strong OGP programming and precision measurement experience to take a hands-on leadership role in our metrology laboratory.
You'll work with advanced inspection technologies—including OGP vision systems, microscopes, and CT scanning—to inspect some of the smallest and most complex molded components in the medical device industry.
This is an ideal opportunity for an experienced metrology technician or programmer who enjoys solving technical challenges, mentoring others, and wants to take greater ownership of laboratory processes and continuous improvement.
What You'll Be Doing
In this role, you'll perform and oversee visual and dimensional inspection of micro-molded components while helping lead the day-to-day activities of our metrology laboratory.
You'll work from customer drawings, specifications, work instructions, and sample parts to verify quality during startup, in-process, and final inspection.
Key responsibilities include:
- Perform and oversee visual and dimensional inspections of complex micro-molded components
- Program and operate OGP vision systems using 3D MeasureMind
- Use microscopes, optical measurement equipment, CT scanners, and other precision metrology equipment
- Interpret customer drawings, specifications, and GD&T
- Program and validate automated inspection routines
- Support and perform Gauge R&R studies
- Identify, document, and support the resolution of non-conforming product
- Establish laboratory priorities and help keep inspection work moving efficiently
- Train and mentor quality technicians on inspection methods, equipment, and best practices
- Collaborate with tooling, molding, engineering, and quality teams to troubleshoot quality and measurement challenges
- Collaborate with the tooling department on metrology fixture design and development
- Support engineering studies, data collection, and customer requests
- Own and continuously improve quality laboratory procedures, processes, organization, and inspection methods
- Assist with labeling, packaging, and shipment preparation as needed
What We're Looking For
We're looking for someone with a strong metrology background who is comfortable working independently, solving technical problems, and taking ownership of inspection processes.
Required
- Experience programming OGP vision measurement systems using 3D MeasureMind
- Strong experience with precision measurement and dimensional inspection
- Ability to read and interpret customer drawings, specifications, and GD&T
- Experience working with microscopes and inspecting small, complex components
- Familiarity with programming and supporting Gauge R&R studies
- Ability to identify and document non-conforming product
- Strong attention to detail, organization, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to communicate effectively and collaborate with quality, engineering, tooling, and manufacturing teams
- Ability to work independently while also supporting and mentoring other technicians
Candidates should have approximately 3 years of OGP programming experience or equivalent advanced hands-on experience with OGP/3D MeasureMind systems.
Preferred
- Experience with Werth CT scanning
- Medical device or medical manufacturing experience
- Familiarity with ISO 13485 environments
- Prior experience training or mentoring other quality or metrology technicians
- Experience improving metrology laboratory processes and inspection methods
