Senior Metrology Technician — MTD Micro Molding

MTD Micro Molding manufactures ultra-small and minimally invasive medical and healthtech devices, from overmolded components to bioabsorbable implants. We help customers push the envelope—delivering predictable outcomes for highly complex, first-of-their-kind products.

The parts we manufacture go into critical medical applications where precision and consistency are non-negotiable. We’re looking for a Senior MetrologyTechnician who can take ownership of inspection processes, guide team members, and ensure every component meets the highest standards.

This role is hands-on, detail-driven, and central to maintaining the level of quality our customers rely on.

What you’ll be doing

A core part of this role is performing and overseeing visual and dimensional inspection of micro-molded components to ensure compliance with internal and customer specifications. You’ll work from drawings, work instructions, sample parts, and customer requirements to verify quality at every stage—startup, in-process, and final inspection.

You’ll utilize a full range of precision measuring equipment, including microscopes and optical systems, CT scanners and other vision systems, to inspect extremely small, delicate components. Identifying defects, documenting results, and ensuring proper handling of non-conforming product will be a regular part of your day. The metrology lab will be under your control.

As a senior member of the team, you’ll also support and guide other technicians—training new team members, answering questions, and helping prioritize work to keep production moving efficiently without compromising quality.

You will collaborate closely with molding, tooling, and engineering teams to address quality issues, troubleshoot problems, and support continuous improvement efforts. This includes assisting with data collection for customer requests and helping ensure smooth communication across departments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform and oversee visual and dimensional inspection of micro-molded components
  • Conduct startup, in-process, and final inspections
  • Use microscopes and precision measurement equipment to evaluate small, complex parts
  • Identify and document non-conforming product and support resolution efforts
  • Interpret drawings, specifications, and work instructions
  • Collaborate with molding, tooling, and engineering teams to resolve quality issues
  • Support data collection and customer requests
  • Train and mentor quality technicians
  • Program and validate automated inspection routines
  • Collaborate with tooling department on metrology fixture design and development
  • Labeling, packaging, and preparation for shipments as needed
  • Own and manage the quality lab procedures and processes, focusing on continuous improvement.

What we’re looking for

  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to work effectively under microscopes is essential. You should be comfortable inspecting highly complex, miniature components where even the smallest variation matters.
  • Ability to work both independently and with others is critical.
  • Experience with precision measurement tools and the ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications is required.
  • OGP programming experience using 3D Measuremind is required.
  • Familiarity programming for Gauge R&R’s
  • Reading and interpretation of customer supplied drawings including GDT.
  • Strong communication skills are important—you’ll be working across teams and helping train others, so clarity and collaboration matter.
  • The ideal candidate works well in a fast paced environment, has strong communication skills, an eye for the smallest detail and is organized.

Nice to have, not required

  • Experience with Werth CT scanning is strongly preferred.
  • Experience in medical device or healthtech manufacturing will help shorten the learning curve, but it’s not required.
  • Prior leadership or mentoring experience is a plus.

The vibe

We take the work seriously because the work matters. But we’re not rigid about it—we value a team that’s collaborative, supportive, and easy to work with. If you take pride in precision, enjoy solving problems, and want to be part of a team that genuinely cares about what it produces, you’ll fit in well here.
