JOB TITLE: Preschool Teacher Long-Term Sub | REPORTS TO: Preschool Directo
Purpose:
Mt. Juliet Christian Academy is seeking a Long-Term Sub in our Preschool 3-year-old class. This role encompasses providing a safe, loving, and stimulating environment where children can explore, learn, and grow. Through developmentally appropriate practices and a focus on social-emotional development, the Preschool Teacher fosters a love for learning and prepares students for future academic success while nurturing their spiritual growth.
Qualifications:
- Active in a local church and a loving, developing relationship with Jesus Christ.
- Commitment to Christian values and the mission of First Baptist Church Mt. Juliet and Mt. Juliet Christian Academy.
- Previous experience working with young children in a classroom setting.
- Knowledge of early childhood development theories and best practices
- Familiarity with emergent curriculum and play-based learning approaches
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, especially with young children and their families
- Must pass criminal background check, fingerprinting, submit a physical exam and clearance from medical provider
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Develop and implement a developmentally appropriate curriculum that addresses the social, emotional, cognitive, and physical needs of young children.
- Create a warm, nurturing, and inclusive classroom environment where children feel safe, valued, and respected.
- Plan and facilitate engaging and interactive learning activities that promote curiosity, exploration, and hands-on discovery.
- Foster positive relationships with students, building trust and providing individualized support as needed.
- Collaborate with parents to support children’s learning and spiritual development, including regular communication and parent involvement opportunities.
- Assess student progress through informal observations and anecdotal records, documenting growth and milestones.
- Integrate Christian principles and values into daily activities and instruction, fostering spiritual growth and character development.
- Implement developmentally appropriate behavior management strategies to promote positive social skills and self-regulation.
- Create and maintain a safe and organized classroom environment, ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations.
- Participate in professional development activities to stay current with best practices in early childhood education and pedagogy.

Physical Demands:
- Standing for Extended Periods: Frequently standing for long periods during activities, lessons, and classroom management, which may last for several hours at a time.
- Bending and Kneeling: Regular bending and kneeling to interact with children at their level, assist with activities, or engage in classroom cleaning tasks. Reach with hands and arms.
- Lifting and Carrying: Lifting and carrying children, books, supplies, or educational materials. This may involve lifting to 30 pounds or more, especially in cases of assisting children with mobility or carrying large classroom materials.
- Frequent Use of Hands and Fine Motor Skills: Repetitive use of hands for tasks such as writing, drawing, cutting, etc.
