Long-Term Substitute Teacher

Temporary Position | 2026–2027 Academic Year

University School of Nashville (USN) is seeking a dependable and engaging Long-Term Substitute Teacher to support our students and faculty during an extended classroom assignment. The Long-Term Substitute will assume responsibility for maintaining a positive, productive learning environment and will work closely with the classroom teacher, division leadership, and other faculty and staff to ensure continuity of instruction and student support.

This is a temporary position for an individual who is able to commit to a longer-term classroom assignment. The successful candidate will demonstrate flexibility, strong communication skills, sound judgment, and a genuine interest in working with school-aged children.

Responsibilities

• Provide instruction and classroom support in accordance with lesson plans and scope and sequence.
• Maintain a positive, welcoming, and inclusive classroom environment.
• Supervise and support students throughout the school day, including during transitions and other assigned duties.
• Communicate regularly with the Grade Level Coordinator, division leadership, and appropriate faculty and staff regarding student needs and classroom activities.
• Maintain accurate records related to attendance, assignments, and student progress as appropriate.
• Follow USN policies and procedures related to student safety, confidentiality, and professional conduct.
• Collaborate with colleagues to support the academic, social, and emotional development of students.
• Adapt to changing classroom needs while maintaining consistency and continuity for students.

Qualifications

• College degree required.
• Previous lower school teaching experience required.
• Strong computer and technology skills.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with students and colleagues.

Compensation

Compensation will be based on the length and scope of the long-term assignment and will be discussed during the hiring process.
