What are the responsibilities and job description for the Peer Navigator position at Mt Carmel Veterans Service Center?
Support the vision and goals of Mt. Carmel Veterans Service Center by providing non-clinical case management and employment navigation services to military, veterans of all eras and their families while representing the organization in a positive and professional manner in Pueblo and Southern Colorado.
Departmental Responsibilities: CareerCoach responsibilities include managing a complex portfolio of clients while maintaining client follow up sustainment reports, case notes, forms and charts through phone calls, emails, and in person sessions to increase employment and retention rates. Networking with hiring managers and recruiters and reaching out to veterans who have already separated from the military. Conducting mock interviews with clients, working on resume improvement efforts, assisting with applications, job search skills, and facilitating networking events and introduction opportunities leading to employment.
Main Responsibilities:
Clients
· Provides services to veterans and military affiliates to assist with obtaining employment in the civilian sector. (Transitioning Service Members, Veterans of all eras and Military Spouses and dependents to include guard and reserve.)
· Contact prospective clients (obtained through job fairs, networking, etc.) within 5 duty days of initial notification of assignment.
· Conducts intake assessments with 6-8 prospective clients weekly to devise vocational strategic plan and identify historical employment data, credentials, and individualized goals.
· Assists client in navigating and linking them to apply for resources needed and linking them to wrap around services that Mt Carmel Veterans Service Center and other community partners can provide.
· Provides one-on-one, telephone, email assistance to assess employment barriers of clients.
· Creates a plan of action to assess client’s barriers.
· Facilitates training and resource panels for prospective and current clients in the local area.
· Conducts follow-ups with clients to ensure services are assessed; identify and assist with additional services and track outcomes for clients.
· Communicates with community partners on behalf of the client while advocating their needs.
· Remains diligent with the client until case is resolved. No more than 6 months from last contact, adjust/reaffirm client active/inactive status and update in system.
· Maintains client records and input into database. Outreach attempts, case notes and follow-up calls must be made within 2 business days.
Community
· Knowledge of resources community resources, veteran benefits, family programs, career development, legal, educational benefits, child care, financial resources, and wrap around services provided at Mt. Carmel Veterans Service Center.
· Attends meetings, resource fairs and other employment related events in the community as instructed by the Director of Transition & Employment.
· Researches and explores community partner options to assist clients.
General Support
· Submits data and prepares reports involving VSCP.
· Develops and maintains working, professional relationships with Mt. Carmel staff, partners and referral agencies.
· Empathetically works with individuals of all ages and diverse backgrounds.
· Ensures a high level of customer service to clients.
· Works some nontraditional hours, including evenings, weekends, as necessary and required for this position.
· Attends meetings in absence of Director of Transition & Employment.
· Performs all additional duties as necessary and directed by Director of Transition & Employment.
· Reports to Director of Transition & Employment.
Essential Aptitude & Qualifications
· Good verbal and written communication skills, including tact and diplomacy when dealing with staff, partners and clients.
· Experience working with military, non-profit organizations, including knowledge of local military and veteran resources.
· Experience working with employment services in the civilian sector.
· Ability to review resumes and conduct mock interviews.
· Non-clinical case management experience.
· Military or veteran connection preferred.
· Familiar with the Pueblo Community preferred.
· Must possess and maintain a valid Colorado Driver’s License.
· Must be able to pass a background and drug test.
Education/Experience
· Min of High School Diploma or GED.
· Knowledge of MS Office Suite.
