Skilled operators are essential for safely and efficiently running heavy equipment and machinery to execute oil and chip projects at the highest quality standards.
We are seeking an experienced Teamster to run heavy equipment in our Oil & Chip Division, ensuring accurate material placement, compaction, and project efficiency.
Position Summary
The Operator – Oil & Chip Division is responsible for operating heavy equipment on oil and chip projects, including operating our oil distributor. This role works closely with the Oil & Chip Superintendent, Teamsters, and field crews to ensure materials are properly applied and projects are completed safely, efficiently, and according to specifications.
Key Responsibilities
Equipment Operation & Project Execution
- Operate heavy equipment such as oil distributor
- Ensure proper leveling, compaction, and placement of materials according to project specifications
- Collaborate with Teamsters and field crews to coordinate equipment movement and material application
- Assist in setting up and breaking down equipment on job sites
Safety & Compliance
- Follow all OSHA and company safety regulations while operating heavy machinery
- Conduct pre-operation inspections and report any mechanical issues or hazards
- Maintain safe distances from other crews, vehicles, and obstacles on site
- Use appropriate PPE and ensure compliance with all site safety protocols
Collaboration & Communication
- Work closely with Oil & Chip Superintendent and field crews to execute daily work plans
- Communicate operational status, delays, or equipment issues to supervisors
- Assist in training or mentoring less experienced operators as needed
Maintenance & Documentation
- Perform routine maintenance checks on equipment, including lubrication, fuel, and cleaning
- Report equipment issues, maintenance needs, and operational concerns promptly
- Maintain accurate logs and documentation as required by project management
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- Class A CDL required
- Tanker and Haz Mat is a plus but not required
- 2 years of experience operating heavy equipment in construction, paving, or oil and chip operations
- Knowledge of oil and chip processes, materials, and equipment preferred
- Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to troubleshoot minor equipment issues
- Excellent communication, teamwork, and attention to detail
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather and road conditions
Physical Requirements
- Ability to sit, climb, bend, and operate heavy machinery for extended periods
- Ability to lift and maneuver materials or tools as needed
- Ability to work in outdoor environments, including heat, cold, and uneven terrain
Work Environment
This position operates primarily on active oil and chip project sites. The Operator – Oil & Chip Division interacts closely with Teamsters, Field Crews, and Superintendents to safely and efficiently execute material placement and compaction operations.
