Summary/Job Purpose:
The Counsel is responsible for providing legal guidance and oversight for MSIG USA to ensure compliance with laws and regulations affecting US operation. The Counsel is the principal assistant to the head of the corporate legal department and is responsible for the administrative or legal affairs of the corporation that are delegated by the overseeing General Counsel.
Essential Functions:
Litigation and Legal Responsibilities
- Assists the head of the corporate legal department with administrative or legal matters, including the planning, organizing and managing of work activities assigned to staff attorneys by the General Counsel
- Handles complex legal matters with multiple stakeholders and provides sound solutions and strategies for resolution.
- Manages and supervises a network of external legal counsel to provide litigation support and other legal services in a quality, cost effective manner.
- Responds to subpoenas and coordinates various discovery requests in connection with any litigation.
- Collaborates with management to devise efficient defense strategies.
Compliance and Regulatory
- Ensures company is in compliance with all legal and regulatory matters affecting US operation.
- Applies effective risk management techniques and offers proactive advice on possible legal issues.
Contract Review
- Prepares, reviews and negotiates company contracts, requests for proposals and other legal documents

Education and Experience Required:
Diploma/Degree & Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree and Law Degree from accredited US University required. Active license to practice law is required.
- 10 year’s legal experience, preferably in a Law Firm or corporate legal department.
- 5 years’ experience in a property/casualty insurance environment
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent negotiation skills

Competitive Compensation Package includes:
Competitive salary commensurate with experience along with a performance-based bonus.
SALARY: The estimated salary range for this position is $200,000.00 - 230,000.00 per year. This is a good-faith assessment of the salary range for this position only. In determining the actual salary within this range, MSIG USA will consider a candidate’s relevant experience, location, and other job-related factors.
